“Beautiful resort property”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

Our friends from Panama City located this property-boutique style for the four of us and it was more than we expected! Exceptionally clean and simple, but beautifully decorated rooms. Grounds with more types of flowers than in Hawaii. Beautiful infinity pool and open air restaurant. Simple menu, but beautifully prepared and presented. The chef was very accommodating, as well as the service. Management was very hands on to make sure all needs were met. Really can't say enough except if you have an opportunity to stay there-go for it!

Thank you for your kind review. We’re glad that we met your expectations during your stay.

We’re particularly intrigued and pleased to read your favorable comparison with Hawaii. The gardening team will be very proud! Thank you also for your comments on the kitchen & management teams.

Best regards,

We own a boat that's in storage in Boca Chica and we live in Boquete - 90 minutes away by car. Because of the long drive we often stay overnight in the area in order to get two days worth of boating out of one trip. Up to this point in time the options have been limited. We just spent one night at this resort, a spontaneous decision taken as we walked in to check the place out. What a jewel! The design, the layout and the decoration shows that someone with taste and a vision - and a lust for consistency - accomplished a minor miracle. Building in Panama with that kind of finishes is uncommon. The staff has been trained to "a fine polish": everyone comes over and introduces themselves, they observe what the guests are up to and react promptly even before guests have a chance to solicit service. The menu is simple. the food is very tasty and the meals arrive quick enough to impress gringos. The rooms are not cheap, but the food prices are reasonable (at this time - let's hope they can resist the temptation to raise the prices to a level that's not called for (the current trend in Boquete)). We shall return !

Thank you for writing your comments. We are always delighted to welcome international residents who live in the cordillera around Boquete, and who make the easy 90 minute drive down to Boca Chica for the warm tropical air of the Pacific Ocean. We’re on the mainland so no boat transfers are needed. It’s the ideal weekend getaway!

We’re glad you enjoyed the layout and design and the service from the staff. We work hard to keep prices reasonable, given our special, natural oceanside location.

Hope to see you again soon,

The two nights we spent at Boca Del Mar were the unexpected highlight of our two week stay in Panama. It's difficult to add much to the other outstanding and well deserved reviews on this site. We concur with every positive point made about this wonderfully secluded resort and its outstanding staff including Jorge, Juan Carlos and the chef who served up great tasting and nicely presented dishes.

We were ready for a bit of peace and solid comfort after spending several hectic days touring Bouquete and other parts of the Panama Highlands. We had initially thought about going to one of the brand name luxury beach hotels closer to Panama City, and we were very thankful that we were tipped off about Boca Del Mar before he committed to those reservations. We were even more thankful that they had an opening for the two nights we wanted to stay. Boca Del Mar is simply the warmest, most peaceful, most restful and most welcoming place we have stayed at in our many years of travel. It was a truly memorable experience. There should be a six star category for such uniquely wonderful places as this.

Dear Bob & Joanne,

We are very proud to receive your review. All the team are very grateful for your positive comments.

Many clients include us in their vacation schedule after being in the Panama Highlands, or indeed choose this as their main base to explore the mountains on day trips. There’s a notable difference in temperature between the sierra and here on the Pacific Ocean; here guests can bathe in our infinity-style pool all year round!

We’re glad it worked out so well for you.

We arrived after 2pm with no reservation or expectations and asked if Bocas del Mar was open for lunch. The kitchen had just closed at 2:00. So we asked if there was availability for the night (priorities, you know) and there were 2 options. We saw both rooms and were able to pick ours. The rooms were mirrors of each other, both with spectacular views of the water. The color scheme is dark wood with white duvets and lime green fabrics that gave the room a very fresh and tropical feel. The bathroom had a big bathtub, which is a rarity in Panama, and a separate shower. Big glass walls with tinted windows allowed us to keep the draperies open to enjoy the view while retaining privacy. Each room has a private terrace with table and chairs and wi-fi works throughout the property. We did a little happy dance because we were so pleased with this find.

After we checked in, the kitchen graciously re-opened and we ordered from a lunch/bar menu. It was a very comprehensive selection that included salads and seafood and burgers. The service was exceptional and the food was delicious.

The property and service standards are everything you'd expect from a high end boutique resort, and it's the perfect place to indulge and unwind. It's on the Pacific, but thankfully it's not a beachy atmosphere. There are islands just a throw away, so the vista is gorgeous and diverse.

If you want to explore the area, the resort is just a short drive to the tiny village of Boca Chica. Playa Hermosa is about a 20 minute drive and if you arrive at low tide, the beach seems to go on and on.

We thoroughly enjoyed dinner and a bottle of wine here and breakfast was lovely too. But what really stands out is the service, the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff here.

Sadly we could only stay one night because of other commitments, but we are glad the road led us here.

We greatly appreciate your generous review & we are glad that so many of our accommodations features were to your taste; the rooms were designed by the owners to reflect what they most appreciated on their vacations; the bathtubs with views over the gardens to the ocean (tinted windows for complete bathing privacy) are certainly appealing to relax in!

We're also pleased you enjoyed our restaurant services. The restaurant is open for lunch for hotel guests (& visitors as well) from 12pm-2pm (for visitors a reservation is recommended). Guests staying in the hotel can also enjoy a bar menu available until 4.30pm, so those who fancy a late lunch will always find a food serivce available.

On behalf of the team, we thank you again for posting your comments.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights through New Years. From the second we got out of our car, we were treated excellent. Neil, the manager met us at the parking lot. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are flawless, the pool is perfect, and the staff is always wonderful!
We ate at the restaurant for all meals. Every single meal we had was delicious. Each dinner we were treated with a little appetizer compliments from the chef. Lobster and steak were around $20, the rest of the meals around $10-14, which is worth every penny. Gorge was our waiter every meal, and the most kind, wonderful guy ever! I think I will miss him. The owners were gracious and hung out at the restaurant, greeting every one. We took a day trip to 2 different gorgeous beaches, a 4 our excursion that Neil sets up everything for you. It was $180, and also worth every penny! They pack a great little lunch in a cooler for you for $12/person. And snorkel gear to rent for 5 bucks. We rented kayaks and the manager pointed out beaches to see and even kayaked to a little beach full of monkeys!

This place met all of our expectations to wind down after an interesting drive along the coast, staff was amazing, and I would especially recommend for a honeymoon or romantic getaway!

This was my favorite stop in a two-week trip around Panama. The bungalows are perched on a bluff overlooking a Pacific estuary and off shore islands. It's off the beaten path, but that makes it all the more enjoyable. The management and staff were first rate, and the restaurant food was consistently good. Highly recommended.

A suggestion for improvement: coffee maker in the room or in a common area where early risers can get coffee before breakfast.

We are very grateful for your comments and glad that we met your expectations. Your recommendation of our hotel is also appreciated.

We have already actioned your suggestion...

We have always had freshly-ground local Panamanian coffee & teas available, served by our staff in the bar, from 7am for early risers (our a la carte American-style breakfast starts at 7.30am). In addition, I’m also pleased to say that from mid-January we will now have a common area on the bar for self-serve hot drinks from 5am for even early risers. Thank you for the idea!

Kind regards,

My husband and I were looking for a special getaway location for our anniversary and we certainly found it! Perched on a green hill, amid the trees and flowers and overlooking a turqoise bay dotted with ships and outlying islands is a gem called Bocas Del Mar. Not only is the setting spectacular, the rooms and service are too. Tastefully decorated and appointed, each bungalow sits independently with it's own view into the well-maintained gardens. We had our own private patio to enjoy night skies and the birds and howler monkies from across the bay the next morning. The swimming pool is lovely and just the right temperature. But the highpoint of our stay was the incredible service. Jost and Diego, manager and owner of Bocas Del Mar were both on location with their charming families. Their warm and gracious hospitality and the exquisite service by the wait staff made us feel like old family friends. The food was delicious and served at the perfect temperature. This was a fine dining experience in a beautiful and relaxed setting. Everyone seemed to correctly anticipate what we might want next! We were so impressed that we added another night's stay. Diego suggested that we might enjoy a whale watching, caymen viewing, deserted island lunch adventure to round out our day. So within a half hour a private launch appeared at the boat dock and off we went for four hours of fun. Juan and his first mate read the water and found three whales for us to follow, two of them were a female and her calf. What a thrill to watch them breach the surface of the water in unison. Disembarking on a lonely island we met its sole occupant who led us to a palm tree-lined lagoon where the "floating logs" came alive when he called and shook a pail of live crabs. The caymen lumbered out of their water to accept their reward. Then off to a deserted island to enjoy the delicious lunch the staff had packed for us. It was a truly memorable day. This is our favorite hotel in all of Panama. We will be bringing friends and family on our next visit to beautiful Bocas Del Mar.

On behalf of the owners of Bocas del Mar and all the team, we thank you for your very kind review of the hotel. It was a pleasure to have you to stay during your anniversary and we are glad you had such a good time.

The hotel is on a very gentle slope towards the sea, and, as you discovered, it's easy to stroll down to our own dock to take your trip: we are now in January & out of whale-watching season (best time to catch the majesty of the humpback whales is late July to early November), and we are now in full swing with the snorkeling & sport fishing trips, so we hope to see you again soon for some more adventures in the Gulf of Chiriqui Marine National Park!. It's clear blue, tropical skies every day.

With best wishes,
