“Libel laws prohibit a full & frank review”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012 via mobile

The hotel is located up a large hill on a country lane, its views towards snowdonia is quite breathtaking!

Besides that, its all down hill literally. We stayed in room 7 which reminded me of a 1970's blackpool b & b decor with cellotaped down lifted wallpaper edges,a shagpile carpet that looked like it had seen at least two or three decades and a bathroom of the same era complete with insufficient hotwater for the number of rooms serviced resulting in a lukewarm bath on the saturday night and a lovely cold water shower on the sunday even after trying before breakfast then going again after it,

The food is simply left without comment. See strapline for guiding sentiment.

“very welcoming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

Was booked in here by work. On a Thursday night me and my wife were the only ones in the hotel. However, the lady in charge was lovely and very welcoming. The lounge was really relaxing with the log burner really effective. We had an impressive meal from the bar menu and two of the best pints of Strongbow I've tasted in ages (being a connoiseur that's high praise) Room was comfortable if a little dated, and the light fitting was a bit low. Breakfast was served at the earlier time requested and was very tasty. The time of year meant that the views from the terrace were not clear unfortunately. Would be a great location for a walking holiday once the clocks go forward.

“Cosy and friendly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

The bedroom was a good size, and nicely decorated. Perhaps the bathroom could do with a little updating, but it was clean which is the most important thing. Soap and shower gel provided in a dispenser. Plenty of tea, coffee, hot chocolate provided in the room, along with 2 small packets of biscuits replenished daily. Window frames perhaps need looking at, as ours wouldn't shut properly, but the room was warm, and the four poster bed had plenty of bedding on it so there was no risk of being cold!

The hotel is dog friendly, and our dog was made very welcome, with very few restrictions of where he could go, and what he could do. It's nice to find such a dog friendly place.

The location is nice and quiet, overlooking the valley, and about 1 mile from the town centre.
Breakfast was good - with a hearty plateful of cooked food to set you up for the day. We didn't eat at the hotel in the evening, but heard good reports from those guests that did.

Some of the public areas are looking a little tired, but mostly cosmetic and nothing that a lick of paint etc. wouldn't sort out. However, part of the charm of the place is the slightly quirky 'olde worlde' feel - so anything too modern and new found feel out of keeping.

But overall this is a friendly and welcoming place to stay.
Don't expect anything too swish - but that's part of the charm of the place. If the hotel was a person, it would be described as slightly eccentric but well meaning and good company!

“Wonderful holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

We stayed at Fronoleu for five nights and had the most amazing time. Maggie and her staff are warm and welcoming. Maggie cooks beautifully and her dinners were filling and delicious. The room was comfy and warm and the lounge with the log fire was so welcoming and cosy. We had the best nights sleep and woke up to a fantastic breakfast. Maggie is amazing. Recommend this hotel to anyone. Thank you for such a brilliant time.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms seemed to have a four poster. Creaky but cosy
