“Hard to find, a bit too backpackery”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013 via mobile

This is a nice place but doesn't have beach views. The room was a bit dark and soulless. There were crazy loud creatures running up and down our hut all night. It sounded like the jungle creatures were mobilizing for war against humans. I didn't get any sleep but my partner didn't mind it. Bring earplugs I guess. The musicians were average. The food options were limited and bland. We liked the location as an alternative to staying in Accra though...however, the cab driver they called for us was not very trustable and the staff seemed clueless about reasonable rates...something you'd think they'd know about.

we were a group of students and we decided to spend a night at barbara's village to relax. A great decision!!!
the cabanas are cozy with a lot of African charm to a very clean and comfortable place to sleep. the charming garden is very inviting and the bar area is a great place to hang out. the [food is great and the secluded beach five minutes walk from the hostel is incredible!
recommended!!!

With its beautiful garden and cool bar area, friendly and helpful staff, traditional layout of the village and houses offering perfect comfort for Africa, delicious food and relaxing atmosphere, Barbara’s Village certainly comes highly recommended. It’s a distance away from the hustle and bustle of the capital and nearby tourist places, but still close enough to do everything one wants. The first time I visited BV was in 2009 and have been returning ever since – everything still looks as genuine as it always has. I especially enjoyed my two new year celebrations in BV with all that great food at the dinner buffet and with the sounds of a reggae band playing in the background and bringing us into the new year. In my opinion, BV is really the place to start a Ghanaian trip because there you are greeted with a mix of European and African hospitality, the staff is friendly and smiling, Barbara is full of tips for travellers, which all makes the transition from one world into another really smooth, so it’s easier to get used to the different place . There’s also a beautiful beach nearby which has even become clean lately due to the efforts of the locals! All in all, it’s a great place to relax before or after your trip(s), or even for a stay there for the whole time you spend in Ghana! I, for one, always enjoy my time there.

My best decision was to spend few weeks at Barbaras village, I have been twice, 13 days at New Year time three years ago and 20 days in November 2010.
Before coming I was informed about Barbaras village at web side.
The weather was very nice, hot, no rain at that time.
We spent a lot of time at the beach near B.V., swimming in waves, long walking along sandy beach, helping fishermen to pull fishing nets, speaking to children and local people, they are happy and smiling all the time.
We walked several times to nearest place Langma and Kokrobite to experience the way of life or to buy something.
On Sunday we were present at local church to hear mass and every one singing and dancing.
The food was excellent, traditional … red red, fu fu, different fishes, delicious breakfasts (fruit plate … mango, papaya, pineaplle, small banana), pancakes, home made jam, coffee, juice …etc.
At the evening we were talking in »the bar«, sometimes at petroleum lamp and drinking juice, coctails, water, beer. Traditional group of dancers, singers, drummers arranged interesting evenings at B.V. We were at reggae party in Kokrobite.
Rooms were typical equipped and clean.
Every one in B.V. was very friendly.
Mrs. Barbara organised for us some trips to Nzulezu village, castle Elmina, Kakum national park, Obuasi gold mine, Wli waterfalls, Kumasi, Bosomtwe lake, Tafi Atome monkey place, Accra.
I spent really very nice holidays in B.V. and I will come back as soon as possible.
I added some photos
regards

From Accra's bustling and frantic streets or Kokrobite's overly touristic feeling!
