“Private and Relaxing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2012

If there is one way place in Flores you want to splurge, I definitely recommend heading off to Bidadari and stay at Angel Island Resort -a private island 1 hour off of LaBuanBajo. Greeted at the airport by Fati, a super sweet local lady, we were brought to the LBJ harbor to catch the boat to Angel resort.
Upon arriving, we realized we were in paradise. A private island with very few people; May is low season, the water is warm, the sun shining and most guests were on a dive all day; truly private.
The reef off the island is spectacular. Within the first 5mins I saw a squid, heaps of blue star fish, a giant clam and an abundant amount of fish-big and small with beautiful coral.
The rooms are modern Balinese flare straight out of a magazine. Sparkling clean with modern amenities, large and EXTREMELY comfy bed. The outdoor bathroom is stunning. Although no cable, a large flatscreen was provided with a drive and a usb stick filled with movies or to add your own from a laptop. Wifi in the room was a plus as well. Fantastic coffee machine for espressos and the showering amenities were top notch, my hair and body felt incredible.
The all inclusive meals were large portions and pretty decent for a resort. The staff are great! Martin, Andri and Aris are on it the second you breathe in their direction. Their professionalism, promptness and smiles made this a most memorable stay.
Lisa, one of the divemasters, made a point to coming to our room with gear to try on and was honest about what the diving days would be like – Thank you!
The one small complaint would be for better signage to the rooms, a little confusing day or night.
All-in-all I would highly recommend Angel to anyone who’s missing a piece of heaven from their lives.

We stayed at Angel Island in June 2010. If I remember correctly they had started operations not too long ago.

The island itself is gorgeous. The water, crystal clear. The bungalows are beautiful and show excellent craftmanship.

When I read some of the few negative reviews on this page I can't help but think: just relax, man! Who care's if there is or isn't any internet? You mean to tell me that is why you travelled half way across the globe to this beautiful place? Sure, there were a few issues when we were there, but at the end of the day, your attitude as a client is also important. You can make a big deal out of things or you can take a look around and see what Ernst & Kath have managed to put together and then you may put things into perspective. They pretty much put did it all single handedly.

Have a drink and chill out. That is why you are there, isn't it?

We stayed here with my wife in November 2011.

This place is a bit expensive but is definitely worth the money for special occasions such as a honey moon in our case.

The owner and the staff are very friendly, they will cook fresh food to your liking and there is a big variety to choose from.

The snorkeling of the main beach is mind blowing and taking the canoe for a tour of the nearby islands is a really fun thing to do.

The rooms are amazing, something you would expect of a five star hotel.

We had the island for ourselves for a few days and that was a very special experience.

There are a few scorpions on the island that might come into your room after it has rained, they are not dangerous and not life threatening, they just bite you like a bee would. We didn't get bitten and just killed the few scorpions we saw in our room. Just be conscious of this like you would for spiders when you travel to Australia.

Last November we spent 7 nights in Angel Island Resort. Diving and relaxing. The place is absolutely outstanding! Not only for Indonesian standard but also in comparison to other resorts in the world providing diving facilities. We found Angel Island being the best "rapport quality - price", and we do travel a lot. Perfect service; the staff is efficient and kind; delicious meals "à la carte" cooked under Ernest's supervision, one of the owners; diving with Kath from Reefseekers, the other owner, and at times with Ernest; listening to theirs lectures about sea life and environment. We were surprised reading complaints. We should situate Angel Island in its own background. Bravo Kath. Bravo Ernest.

I rarely write in badly about resorts that I stay in but the manager/owner was so rude to me that I find it totally unaccepable that he should be in the hospitality service......I left feeling shocked and upset with my whole stay.
The rooms were nice, the snorkelling great, the staff friendly but laid back verging on lazy.......all I can handle..........but the Scottish guy who runs it needs to chill and remember we are paying guests and human beings.
The food was really badly cooked and presented and the breakfast, basic eggs and toast, with a handful of cornflakes not quite what we expected at the high prices.
Unfortunately at the all inclusive price you are stuck along with his arrogant attitude I could not wait to leave.....never to return!
PS Kath was friendly when we saw her one morning!

My wife and I decided to splurge a bit and booked 5 nights on this island paradise. Getting away from the Kuta crowds and traffic made the 1 hour flight more than worth it. Once we arrived, we were treated like VIPs from the moment they picked up our luggage at the airport.

The bungalows are spotless, the beds are huge, and the outdoor shower / bathroom was an experience unto itself. You can also choose to have all of your meals delivered right to your door if you choose, but going down to the restaurant and being greeted with warm smiles by the friendly staff and enjoying some of the best fish we've ever eaten was a daily treat.

The boat trip to Rinca to see the dragons was something I had dreamed of doing since watching these majestic beasts on nature shows growing up. Thanks to Angel Island for making it so accessible for your guests. On top of that, the diving was world class. Being able to spot 3 huge Mantas on one dive was one of the highlights of an unforgettable trip.

The seclusion you enjoy at this resort is worth every penny. On the day we arrived, there were three other couples staying on the island but we hardly saw them outside of meal time. The bungalows are perfectly spaced out with forest buffers in between. The beach has an amazing variety of fish that will keep you entertained for hours. There are also speedy little geckos that will run around on the ceiling of your bungalow, however, there is nothing to fear from these entertaining guests. You will also see the resident bat that hangs from the ceiling in the restaurant every night. Just one more thing that sets this place apart from the mega resorts and their cattle call feel.

I can't say enough good things about this place and foresee making the trip back someday. The owners have a 75 year lease on the island so I'm hoping they don't change a thing before we return! This really is a special place that needs to be preserved. Thanks again to both of you and your fantastic staff for making our honeymoon dream come true.

We decided to treat ourselves to 3 nights on Angel Island, after traveling around Indonesia. It was well worth every penny spent; from the oversized double bedroom villa, to the all inclusive a-la-carte menu and impeccable service from the staff - we couldn't have asked for more. The islands' snorkeling was some of the best we had ever done and it was great to see the islands' beaches and coral so well looked after.
Thank you Ernst & Kath for being so hospitable and making our stay so memorable.
