“Clean comfortable and convenient but name change now to Gladstone Motel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2013

We travelled with another couple and stayed for 2 nights in adjacent studio units 805 and 6. On arrival we found the units ready for occupation although we arrived early, no problem with booking in and found unit clean and tidy with good appointments. Hook was available for skylight and sky sport enabled us to watch AB's beat England in rugby. The motel is situated alongside a busy road but soundproofing reduced noise to acceptable. Hosts available for advice on eating places etc.
Would be happy to return and stay again.
Suggest that name change to Gladstone Motels be made as confusing trying to find that Destiny no longer exists in name

Room Tip: Agree that units away from road are probably better for light sleepers

We stayed in this motel for 2 x nights last weekend (2 x adults & 1 toddler) and stayed in the 2 bedroom unit. It was clean and tidy with all the usual conveniences you would expect. The only draw back was that you could hear the neighbours quite clearly (not fun at 5.30am) getting ready to start their day (doors banging / talking). Other than that, it was quite central to a few chain eateries and close to a reasonable sized playground. All in all a comfortable stay.

Thanks for your response. Our ground floor units all have double thickness insulation to eliminate noise and are otherwise extremely quiet. However, the unit you were in has an interconnecting door so it can also be used by the next unit. Although these doors are solid and very good at sound proofing they are not totally sound-proof if you have noisy neighbours. For this reason we try whenever possible to make sure that we avoid using side by side units that have the interconnecting doors. Unfortunately at times when we are fully booked this is not possible. Sorry. I guess you were unlucky that you had noisy neighbours that day.

We have stayed at this apartment complex twice in studio apartments. Both times recieving the same excellent service from owners who are proactive with communications and very amenable to assist you when you arrive.
Apartments are very well appointed, best for 2 rather than more...if you have more people book the Destiny motels 1 and 2 bedroom suites.
the studios are well appointed, great beds etc...ask for apartment 807 or 806 as further away from traffic of main road.
Only very slight downside remarked by the short member of the visiting group...she could not reach the skylight opening in bathroom to ventilate the room when showering...maybe a hook pole could be included for the vertically challenged. Also some congestion as in the studio units the bathroom comes right off the kitchen area where people are preparing breakfast...not a real prob just need to be aware of it and accommodate.
generally the apaertments were as freash and clean 2 years on from our first visit...great stuff. and a very nice place to stay.
regards
kay

Room Tip: ask for rooms away from main road. studio apartment 8007 and 8006 are good

Thanks for your comments which are always appreciated. We will look into something to make opening of the sky-light a bit easier for those who need to stretch a bit.

We have stayed at this very comfortable motel on 3 occasions over the last 6 years. The cleanliness and comfort of the rooms cannot be faulted and the owners are always available to help with any enquiries. Good size rooms come with large TV, DVD and surround sound. Also wireless internet is available - the first 10MBs free but you pay thereafter, which was a little disappointing. SKY TV was advertised but only the most basic channels - we missed out on watching the Ashes cricket test, which we had been able to follow at a previous motel.
Bathroom a good size with jacuzzi-type bath and excellent shower.
The motel is right on the main Gladstone Road so access is very good and the local Richmond shops an easy 200m walk away. The downside to this is it can be a bit noisy traffic- wise but the owners have put in double glazing which helps.
Apart from these minor issues it remains a motel we look forward to returning to with luxury furnishings, comfort and cleanliness all paramount. Strongly recommend to visitors who want to be on the doorstep to everything Nelson and the Bays offer.

Thanks for your comments which we always appreciate. We have since canvassed our guests regarding Sky TV channels and as a result have added extra Sports channels so the cricket should be available in future. We have also switched over to all digital in anticipation of the digital cutover next year.
Regarding Internet access. We have increased our free allowance to 50Mb and reduced the charges for excess use. To be honest the only real reason we put a limit on it is to discourage the possibility of downloading Movies, Video clips or Music etc which may be subject to copyright law or of a sensitive or dubious nature. As these types of files are generally quite large, the 50Mb limit should discourage this activity.
Note: The double glazing is also with "Hush" glas specially designed to minimise noise.

My wife and I stayed here last year, and it was a wonderful surprise. We thought it would be your run of the mill motel, but it was actually really nice. The rooms were well appointed and the staff freindly. Would definately stay there again. The only drawback were that the rooms were small, but they made up for that and more by being very nice rooms.

We recently stayed here for a weekend. We had booked three units and thought they were reasonably priced, very clean and everything you need. The 2 bedroom unit we had was a good size and well laid out. Our friends stayed in another 2 bedroom unit but their's was not as large as ours. The studio is just what you would expect for a studio.
The location was good - easy to access and close to shops etc.
