Mangoes is a lovely and comfortable western food restaurant situated a little out of the way on Langkawi Island in the village of Kuala Teriang. If you aren't sure how to get there phone Michele at 60175898117 and give your handphone to the taxi driver so that you can be guided in.
I visit Langkawi two to three times a year and when there probably eat half my dinners and always my Sunday brunch at Mangoes. The food is great but it is the welcoming and pleasant atmosphere that is the real drawing card for me. Lutz (Germany), Michele (Australia), Icki (Bangladesh) and the lovely Christina (3rd generation Langkawi) make everyone feel welcome, whether you choose to belly up to the bar with the local expat barflies, or take one of the tables looking out over the the garden.
For Sunday brunch you can't beat the Eggs Benedict with Salmon, washed down with a Bloody Mary or two. For evening meals I have particularly enjoyed the T-bone Steak, the Meatloaf & Mash, and the Shepherd's Pie.
The music, mostly selected by the slightly nefarious and totally enigmatic Noel, helps set the mood of slighty off kilter comfortableness (if that doesn't make sense to you, have another Bloody Mary and try again).
If you are on Langkawi for a few days be sure to give Mangoes a try and have a taste of the island that tourists seldom experience, and the expat community counts on.
