“Excellent experience”

We visited today as part of a party for a christening celebration. The service, attitude and overall experience was brilliant. Everyone was very helpful and despite being busy we were all more than happy with the quality of service.

What a lovely place this is. I think the website undersells it somewhat, it's a fairly new development added onto a pub. Our room was the flat, where there was a double bedroom and bathroom upstairs and living area/kitchen downstairs. All furnishings/fittings were spotless and looked as-new. For £105 per night, it was impressive value. We overlooked a paddock and traffic noise was very low, considering the hotel's location near to a main road. On our first night, we ate in the hotel's restaurant and the food was very good. We stayed on a B&B basis, the cooked breakfast was good and very filling. There is an ice cream parlour on-site, although I didn't sample any, the list of flavours was long and very tempting. Staff were very laid back come checking out time, "don't rush off" is what I was told. All in all, a fabulous place and I would definitely consider it again should I be in the area again.

Good: free wifi worked in room, crisp bed linen and towels, everything very clean, bathroom in good condition, looked recently decorated, plenty of storage, quiet even though Friday night.
Bad: check-in was a bit chaotic, member of staff on reception wasn't very accommodating when we requested an early breakfast despite the info in the room stating this wouldn't be a problem (big thanks to the member of staff who served us breakfast, she made it as good as possible).
VFM, would return.

Room Tip: Ask for one not on the road side of the hotel.

My sister wedding reception was held at The Blue Bell Hotel on Saturday. All the staff were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. Due to it being a beautiful day the photographs took longer than expected and the reception meal must have run nearly an hour late. The chef did a fantastic job & produced a fantastic meal for 50 guests. The manager & staff were run off their feet until the early hours, nothing was too much trouble for anyone. Wedding guests filled every room for an over night stay & enjoyed a comfortable night in the fabulous accommodation & had a lovely Wedding breakfast the following morning. Thank you to everyone for a fantastic wedding reception.

Stayed in one of the rear "garden" rooms where the door wouldnt open fully because of the bed.....
The bed moved all around the room on castors at the slightest of movements........
The WC was unusable being too close to the wall..........
External lighting shines straight into the room through the door glass until 4am preventing any semblance of sleep........
Staff arrive in their cars around 7am reving their engines and driving far too quickly over the gravel road immediately outside the room door........
Curtesy drinks in room but noglass supplied.............

Never again

We went to The Blue Bell Hotel at Burton Agnes for their Wednesday night Indian Special. What a disaster!

The waitress launched the starters all over the table and popped them back onto the plate, "enjoy" she said and walked off.

My wife and I both decided to to have the medium spiced chicken curry. The curry had no spice in it - it was like a Chicken Chassuer! Even worse the rice was a "rissoto" rice! It all tasted awful!

We complained to the Manager and she brought the waitress over to our table. She asked about the starters, to which the waitress said "my fingers were clean, so I thought it was better than leaving them on the table!"

The Manager explained that their chef was leaving them that night. Maybe he was trying to sabotage their business!

However the worst part was that the Manager said she would contact us to arrange "something". No reply after 4 weeks so here is my Blue Bell Hotel @ Burton Agnes restaurant summary:

Awful give it a miss and spend your money somewhere else. It only gets 1 star due to the beer on tap.

Visited the Blue Bell for a meal and then an overnight stay.Impressed by endeavour and desire to please of staff. Comfortable, classy rooms. Artistic flourishes in the kitchen producing satisfying dishes. Owners are trying hard to succeed with varied events diary and special offers.
