“50th Wedding Anniversary Party”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2011

We have just returned from another stay at Le Foulon, this time it was for a 50th wedding anniversary party. 30 family and friends met there on the 21st May and from the time we were welcomed by Nick, Mia, Bene and Enzo (the last two being the most adorable and well behaved dogs) we had the most wonderful time. Nothing was too much trouble for Nick and Mia, they were the perfect hosts who worked tirelessly to ensure that this party was a great success and it certainly was that. Have to congratulate Nick on his wonderful cooking, the wild dandelion risotto was to die for. Looking forward to our next visit.

Spent a week here, 18 of us in total took over the hotel, literally. Good base for seeing Nice, Cannes and the surrounding area. Roads a bit hairy at times but worth the effort. Hotel had everything we needed and the welcome and odd bit of help requested during the week was discreet and appreciated. Well appointed and comfortable rooms with good views in peaceful surroundings.

We stayed 4 nights at this hotel last week. It is situated in the very beautiful narrow valley of the river Loup, just upstream of the spectacular Gorges du Loup. If your idea of a good time is relaxing in lovely scenery with no near neighbours and complete tranquility, then this is the place for you. There are dozens of walks, ranging from gentle strolls through the woods by the river to very energetic scrambles; with a few old villages on the hill tops for a rest and a cooling drink. The towns and villages nearer the coast are very crowded and impossible to park in so we explored the interior instead. Driving needs a lot of care and concentration because the roads are narrow, twisty and in places vertiginous.
The hotel itself is very comfortable with very large rooms and every modern comfort. The owners, Nick and Mia, are English and could not have done more to make our stay a pleasant one. We had excellent dinners in the hotel every evening.

I have just returned from a family holiday at Le Foulon (14 adults and two kids).
There's about a 30-45 min drive from the airport but the location is definitely worth it. (Use the good directions off the website - not Sat Nav).
Le Foulon has a small valley essentially to itself with good walking through forests and streams. We were noisy but there's no one there to care!
The local towns are lovely with nice places to shop and eat. Supermarches about 20-30 mins away.
We had all nine bedrooms. They all have 6ft beds (4 split in to twins if needed). Pure cotton linen, comfy mattresses, goose down quilts. Modern bathrooms with high pressure showers and we never ran out of hot water.
The lounge and living areas are comfy and relaxed, old leather sofas and big stone fireplaces (without feeling corny!). I almost wanted snow outside.
Incredible kitchen (walk in cold room - I want one!)
Nick and Mia were both very helpful. They seem to have travelled a lot and chosen the best bits for here. There's a lot of subtle attention to detail and creature comfort.
There's lots of stairs. My dad is a little infirm and stayed in Fablo which is just two steps down from the main living area and entrance (Gertrude is the same).
They're still in the process of refurbishing the library and winter garden (Looks good from the outside) and are hoping to add a further 4 bedrooms.
We genuinely loved Le Foulon. My fear (and hope) is that we may never be allowed family holidays anywhere else.

We stayed at Le Foulon for two nights recently. It was booked by a friend to celebrate his 40th birthday. There was a party of 12 of us for two nights, and then over the week he had other friends coming to stay.
Le Foulon has been a hotel or hostelerie for many years but has been brought back to life by an Englsih couple who now run the place. During the summer they let the hotel in week blocks and basically let you treat it like your own home. It is about 40 minutes from Nice airport up a windy road into the hills and is nestled in a valley with a river nearby and a lovely grass meadow where you can arrive by helicopter if you are feeling flash - saying that it seats 6 and is only about 500 euros from Nice.
The house is big and the entrance hall doubles as the bar and sitting area which is open plan with the dining area which over looks the terrace and pool area.
The bedrooms are not flashy or chic, just plain tasteful with great beds. No TVs but ipod docking alarm radios in each room. The bathrooms have all been newly renovated and are well done. No products in the bathrooms which is surprising so take your shampoo and conditioner!
Once you have settled in it is time to unwind. It is a peaceful, hidden setting. The house is in the sun all day until about 8.00pm.There is a large BBQ area with a big table.
This is the absolute ideal location for a get together of friends, family or for a wedding. It is perfect for unwinding.
It is about 40 minutes to 1 hour to all the attractions at the Nice end of the area - Monte Carlo, Nice, Antibes, Cannes - as well as being close to the lavender fields and Grasse.

Le Foulon is a very quite and relaxing place to stay. Our friends and ourselves had one weeks stay and we had the Wolf Suite and the Struas suite, highly recommendable. Nick and Mia made us feel very welcome, it was a very different holiday for us, being up in the mountains away from it all. You do need a car if you intend to move around, we did all the sights on the coast near to Nice, it was really nice to get back to the peace of the hotel and grounds. We thought at first, no TV no radio, but believe me it was heaven. At our time of stay there was only the four of us, strange at first, but then it was wonderful, we felt that the hotel was ours, really chilling out at night. I am sure anyone visiting there will enjoy their stay.

We stumbled upon this hotel on the internet and it more than lived up to its expectations.
Fantastic style of decor merging contemporary with classic French and would suit everyone's tastes. Nick and Mia were lovely and the food was great with an amazing array of treats for breakfast.
We used the hotel as a base to discover the Riviera and really felt like we'd got away from it all here-we even took the dog for a walk in the beautiful mountain setting.
I couldn't recommend this hotel more.

  • Liked — The beautiful setting
  • Disliked — You definitely need a car-although that's not a bad thing at all!
