“Very nice stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2013

We stopped at the Fox & Hounds mainly because it was Dog friendly. It is located at the edge of the village with stunning views from all angles. There is a village green area across from the pub and a Pub Garden to the side. There are lots of walks around the area and you are on the edge of the moors.
The room was plain but clean, warm and ideal for just sleeping in. The bar area has a welcoming open fire and original feel to it. The staff were very nice and friendly and the locals made you feel welcome. It servers tasty food and cask beer which you can have in the bar area or the more modern restaurant area. The breakfast was fresh cooked and it was so nice to have hot but not crisp Black pudding.
This is an excellent place to got to get away from the rigors of life and enjoy the country. You are in easy reach of the coast.

Our group of 8 friends on a walking holiday on the North Yorkshire Moors descended upon this great Inn for our final night's dinner. We had discovered it on an earlier walk when it provided the welcoming end to a local Fell Run in the picturesque village of Ainthorpe. We were welcomed into a cosy bar by the friendly staff and enjoyed perusing the enticing menu on offer. We ate in the next door dining room in splendid isolation (it was a Wednesday night) and had the most wonderful meal which would have been lauded in even the best gasto pubs "down south". All of our meals were brilliant - not fancy - but very well cooked and presented, with good sized portions and full of big tastes from locally sourced fare.
We were very pleasantly surprised to get this standard of food from such an "ordinary" looking pub. The staff were very friendly and efficient and I would thoroughly recommend this place to anyone passing or those in the area seeking a good place to eat.

This has simar accommodation. To the Duke of Wellington but about £20 or more pounds more expensive, but still offers good value for money. Very friendly and helpful staff and a really nice bar and range of meals. Rooms nicely set out a and decorated to a good standard. Worth a visit and would stay again

We visited the Fox and Hounds for an early dinner with our two dogs. Dogs are allowed in the bar but not in the restaurant area. The pub has a cosy old fashioned feel to it, with open fires and lots of doggie prints on the walls. Good choice of real ale and a reasonable wine list. Food is old fashioned pub grub, steak and ale pie was excellent only let down by very soggy chips but the vegetarian red Thai curry was rather lacking in spice and was very heavy with potatoes. It is set in a beautiful location and makes for a nice drive out for an evening meal. Only spoilt by lots of noisy children running around in the bar area.

Quite hard to find but very beautiful location. We went up for lunch and would highly recommend the steaks. Cooked to perfection and plenty of it too!!
Family friendly and cosy and warm.
Certainly worth a journey up there and we will definitely be back!!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

I stayed here for 2 nights in March with a large family group. The staff were always very helpul, especially the waitresses who were lovely and cheerful. The food was of a high standard with large portions. The breakfast was really lovely, the most delicious eggs I've tasted in a long time! The room was clean and spacious and had everything we needed. The location was spectacular but unfortunately I didn't have time to explore and it was minus 3 the whole time I was there so it was rather bitter!

We(group of 4) stayed 5 nights in the Fox & Hounds and we were looked after exceptionally well, even the weather was good(March). The food was of a high standard with a good choice and quality. The rooms were excellent and lovely and warm in the cold weather. The position was excellent for all locations and we had wonderful views from our rooms. The bar and locals were friendly and we had a thoroughly good time.
