Where is that 6th Star? From the moment we turned up at the gates to the moment we left Gravetye Manor the whole experience was unbelievable. I am quite frankly speechless.
Beautiful drive up to the Manor, excellent friendly welcome. Directed out to a fantastic garden, secluded table in an idylic spot. Service was exemplary. Atmosphere was informal and laid back but extremely efficient. Everything from the cutlery to the crockery to the teapot to the salt and pepper pots were of the highest standard. Extreme attention to detail but making it look so natural, I have to say it was a really wonderful experience. The building, the setting, the garden...did I mention the garden....Oh my, the garden is out of this World and this is coming from somebody who doesnt usually have their head turned by that sort of thing. The hard work and love that has gone into it just shines out in every bit of it and there is a lot of it (Take a stroll to the Kitchen Garden...unbelievable!!)
The food was fresh and seasonal, you could taste the freshness in every mouthful. This was the Garden Restaurant menu so food was not over fussy but tasty and cooked well, you could ask for nothing more. I am a huge foodie and I felt this delivered on the button.
I implore you to visit this place, once you do so it will mark the standard for every experience you have from this point forwards. I have recently had lunch at places such as the new MPW restaurant (Rainbow), Jeremys, Ockenden - this experience ranks well above them all.
I have not one thing that I could criticise. This place deserves to be ranked as the best in Sussex. Myself and my partner will be coming back here now we have found it, certainly returning for the A La Carte and many more lunches.
