When you walk into the Cat you are hit by the warm, friendly atmosphere, this is a real rustic country pub!
The staff are attentive, hard working but not intrusive! Best of all The Cat can COOK!!
Four of us ate and four of us loved the food, my fish in the lightest, crispest batter was the best I have ever eaten!!
A special mention for our tall good looking waiter with his lovely smile!
He was the icing on a very superb cake! Can't wait to return.

We came here on a Thursday evening with closed families and the staff didn't know where is our reserved table at the first place which is quite unbelievable.
After everyone's seated, it took us a long time to wait for someone who's actually free to take our order.

It took another 40 min for our meals to served but the food is really good so I guess it's worth of waiting.
As for the main, anything to do with seafood is a good choice, they seasoned really well.
For the dessert, I pretty much love everything we ordered.

I'd recommend this place for hanging up with colleagues and friends after work where the atmosphere is cozy and warm but it is a big no for family dinning.
We didn't stay there for long because the whole room was basically too busy and noisy that we literally had to shut for chatting.

I'll try to go there again during the week day for lunch and hopefully the service will be much better when it's not so busy.

The Cat is a real village pub and obviously very well patronised by the locals in this lovely rural area. We stayed for two nights while attending a wedding nearby and had a most enjoyable time. The bedrooms are very well furnished and equipped and extremely comfortable and there are real baths in the bathroom. We found the Cat to be good value for money in an area where prices are generally high. We ate in the bar and found the meals generous and satisfying and the atmosphere very convivial.

Room Tip: all the rooms seemed well maintained and comfortable

Delicious lunch at The Cat today to celebrate our anniversary. A warm welcome and just the right amount of attention from the staff. Beautifully presented main courses followed by an indulgent shared dessert.

We stayed at The Cat on the recommendation of some locals and we were not disappointed! We stayed in Room 1 with a really comfy bed, good sized bathroom, coffee maker and TV. All spotless. A little bit of noise came up from the bar below but that stopped pretty much as soon as last orders were called.

We had dinner in the restaurant and tried the local beer and sparkling wine; thoroughly enjoyed it all and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Stood at the bar again after dinner for a nightcap and joined in with the regulars - what a fantastic atmosphere there on a Friday night. Someone talented was playing the piano and 'happy birthday' was sung a couple of times in addition to a good repertoire. Brilliant!

Breakfast was also excellent, served by Andrew. Muesli with greek yoghurt, apricots, strawberries, prunes and grapes, fresh toast, orange juice, great coffee and full English with wonderful local ingredients. We were sorry they didn't have a room for us the following evening.

Having just returned from a gastro holiday we needed to keep up momentum. The Cat Inn did not disappoint. Second time we've eaten here, and this time, with 4 of us in a seriously packed establishment can sometimes be a bit scary. The staff here are fab. All friendly and patient. Food was exceptional and with a bottle of wine you could be looking at north of £175 but we've no complaints. Will be returning very soon.

We were sent here by the (local) friends we had dinner with at the 'Manor' in the area - Gravetye Manor. We were going to stay at the Manor as we would normally be happy to pay the top price required for a bed for the night (£350) when our friends said to try the Cat as it is their favourite local pub. We were slightly anxious of booking a pub/Inn. Our friends recommended it as good.

We were very pleasantly impressed. Paid £110 for room 3 and it has (we think) been recently refurbished throughout. I hope that the cleanliness and standards can be sustained long term purely due to being so clean and the best overall standard that we have come across in an Inn or Pub. VFM goes without question!

The staff also need a truly special mention. It is possible we were again lucky but I do not believe this - the staff were 100% brilliant. Our standards are reasonable (we think) and are happy to criticise when poor but the management at the top must be superb as these things trickle down. I think we met Andrew as we had Breakfast (pretty damn good with as much of anything as we required) and if so, we can see why everyone - without exception - is a credit to the Cat! (Without exception and reservation on our part)

If we are anywhere near there, we will be staying again. Will most likely eat there next time as well as the Manor wasn't great! Hope this helps people who go through the process we did when in the neighbourhood. Really quite a pleasant and exceptional surprise (in a really good way)

(BTW - the limitless supply of OJ/Toast/Coffee was a God send after a rather late night!)

Thank you to the Cat!!!

Room Tip: Close the windows in Room 3 due to the Church Bells (not too intrusive) and the odd traffic early in...
