We were a family group of 8 adults and 4 very young children staying here to celebrate a ruby wedding anniversary. It was a very special weekend and Gravetye was definitely the right place to stay. Every detail from the moment we arrived was taken care of, our bags were carried inside, the food was superb, the rooms delightful with views of the stunning garden and the atmosphere is charming. The staff were so friendly and helpful and coped wonderfully with our little children! Quite simply a fantastic hotel.

Family gatherings have been part of Gravetye life for many years. When we cater of family parties we always offer a private room because the dining room is limited to children over 7 years old. This works very well giving a home from feel for family occasions.

For the past three or four years, I, together with a couple of girlfriends have gone to Gravetye for afternoon tea as part of our (pre) Christmas celebrations. It has always been wonderful - we sit down in comfy chairs, near a log fire and enjoy the tea, sandwiches, scones, cakes etc.

This year the offering was a little different with savoury sausage rolls and brioche buns accompanying the sandwiches - it was a lovely touch and made for an even more enjoyable tea.

We linger, we chat, we drink, we eat and have such a good time that it has become a much loved Christmas tradition. The service is excellent, the staff are polite and friendly. If you don't manage to eat everything (and we never do because there is so much to choose from) the staff offer to box up what we haven't eaten so that we can take it home and enjoy it later.

I am pleased you enjoyed your pre-Christmas reunion for afternoon tea at Gravetye. This year we have changed the format slightly and gone for something different instead to all bread sandwiches, hence the sausage and chestnut roll, and a savoury brioche bun with smoked salmon mousse. I do hope you can make it for maybe a summer reunion for afternoon in the garden!

We stayed at Gravetye Manor on their winter warmer deal on 1st January. Beautiful place, lovely setting, we were given a very large and luxurious bedroom on the top floor ("Sycamore") which we loved. Menu included in deal was ok, you could also choose to use £40 toward a la carte instead of standard menu, which was good. Wine/alcohol quite expensive (£8 for a glass of port) and as miles away from anywhere else, no choice.
Very attentive staff. Expensive but worth it!

Room Tip: Top floor suite (Sycamore) fantastic - v quiet and well appointed

Thank you for your review. I am pleased you enjoyed Sycamore, you stayed on our ‘Winter Warmer’ package which included dining from our daily menu. Winter is always lovely at Gravetye with our open log fires throughout the ground floor.

My wife and I enjoyed our traditional Xmas treat with dinner here.We usually dine 3/4 tims per year..and have been doing so for the last 25 years or so.We have seen many changes including ownership/Michelin stars coming and going. The present set up is the best we have experienced.Even when fuly booked it was very enjoyable...not sure about al the staff being English as one of your reviewers reported but definitely no French that we experienced. However it is a lovely setting and servicer..looking forward to our next visit Mike and Marion ward

Room Tip: suggest you dine early to get most pleasure

Went for lunch and have been once or twice a year for the past 20 plus years. It's a beautiful Country Hotel retreat with fantastic grounds. The restaurant staff used to be almost exclusively French, but mostly English these days, je ne sais quoi! If it's had a Michelin star it passed me by , if it hasn't then it's as deserving as some that have one now! I will point out some failings but they were far out-weighed by the plus points. It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for. We had some cocktails to start (had to ask for the drinks menu!) Very pleasant, well presented with ample nibbles. Took a bit of an age to arriive, but relaxed may be the explanation/ reason. Ordered off the a la carte, there's a £20 something set menu which looked ok, could have done with a halifax mortgage, but the fois gras and soup my guests had were excellent. My scallops were good, but warm rather than hot, passable. My partridge main was really good as was the pork belly the two guests had. We did order a 'bonus' terrine of vegetables, totally unnecessary as the guy taking the order had intimated! Desserts of foam laced banana and cheese preceded with a freebie, (no free lunch here!) iced flake sorbet and blackberry were excellent. The guy dispensing the cheese knew his stuff and was very enlightening. Coffee in the log-fired lounge with some chocs. We had bottled still water, but would have preferred their own decanted spring stuff, but wasn't offered it. There was a log fire in the dining room and another in the front lounge. The service was absolutely excellent ,a minute spillage of a relatively reasonably priced Chinon £30 plus, was the only' hair-splitting' fault. The atmosphere was understated seasonal and my two guests, one of whom had been before, thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Threw in the very minor faults just to reassure any reader that nothing's perfect. Will as always be back, never been disappointed in all the years I've been going.

It is always a pleasure to find out how many years our guests have been faithful to Gravetye Manor. New ownership on 2010 saw a complete refurbishment, but to the eye it was as before, resisting the temptation to follow the ‘boutique’ route, keeping true to high standards of food, service and hospitality. We look forward to welcoming you back in the New Year.

Gravetye Manor is a beautiful 16th century manor house on a 1000 acre estate in the country. We had the Bay room - highly recommended! It is a huge corner room, wood panelled, with great views of the extensive garden and countryside from big windows. Even has a view of the formal garden from the shower. Very comfortable bed, 4 chairs, desk, table, bureau, fireplace, adequate lighting. Excellent modern bathroom, with only a minor frown for the tub shower, which has one of those silly 20-inch half-doors which ensure that some water will end up on the floor.

Excellent service throughout from the pleasant young staff. We ate dinner three times in the very nice lounge. The food was very good although not awesome. We didn't eat in the formal dining room except for excellent breakfasts, which are ordered, not buffet.
The estate grounds are super, great for walking, birding, and relaxing. The split of iced champagne upon our arrival was much appreciated, as was the bowl of fresh fruit which was replenished daily. The minibar has complimentary water and juices, a nice touch, as was the box of chocolates left by our last evening's turndown service.

Dear Californian guests
I am so pleased to hear you enjoyed your few days with us in October. Bay is indeed a beautiful room with a lovely traditional feel and great views over the gardens, as do a majority of our bedrooms. I am glad you enjoyed the lounge menu, maybe next time we could entice you to eat in the dining room to sample our dinner menu which has an excellent and varied choice. Thank you for taking the time to report, we do look forward to your return visit to Gravetye Manor.

For over 40 years Gravetye Manor has had a members loyalty scheme whereby for a small subscription you receive priority booking for our events program, complimentary overnight stay and a credit points scheme, if this is of interest to you please call reception on 01342 810567
Thank you so much for your lovely comments though not sure what you know as the Healey? I know most of the history of Gravetye but I have not heard any of our rooms called by this name – please let me know!
