“Tranquility”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

Our 4 day break was as we expected, quiet & very relaxing. We had an Elite 1 which was very nice but with a few cleaning issues. Of course we reported these to the owner Peter the next day who stated he would come & have a look, the only problem was that we had gone out to Eye by the time he had called us back. Peter stated that he was going to Diss so would call in on his way back.We think Peter must have got caught up in Diss as he returned to us the next day but we did not mind as the problem was not urgent. We pointed out the cleaning issues which were stains on the sofa, stained carpet, dust on mirror, skirting, doors, dried flowers arrangement's,kitchen blinds, bathroom blinds, dirt around toilet bowl, dust & cobwebs in bathroom, toothbrush holder dirty, shower head held on with cable ties, door on fridge freezer broken ,all of these things did not spoil our break because we would not let them plus its not the end of the world but!!! could have been easily avoided. Peter was rather shocked to see all these issues & wondered what he was paying his cleaners to do. Peter apologized & stated that all of these points have been taken on board & he will be making sure that this does not happen again although he trusted his cleaners but will now be checking the Lodges in future. After all this we would stay again & hope Peter keeps to his word!!! but do not go here if you are expecting a lively stay as it is total peace, quiet, and silence (apart from farm stuff & cars that do not stick to the speed limit & wiz past as if on a motor way).Thanx Peter for a quiet stay.

Room Tip: Elite Lodges seem to be the best.

Me and my boyfriend were looking for a quiet weekend away; which we were able to have at Athelington Hall Log Cabins!
We loved the Elite 2 Log Cabin that we stayed in and the hot tub and sauna made the stay so relaxing.
We arrived very late at night as we were working late, so by the time we has got there we picked up our welcome letter from the reception which told us our key would be in our door... Could anyone have just walked into our cabin before we got there!????
The cabin was kitted out with lots of modern furnishings and also had amazing amounts of cutlery and crockery! The beds were so comfortable and we slept well through the night!
The overall holiday was extremely enjoyable and relaxing however there was a few improvements that I would suggest:
- the games room could do with a makeover as there is little to do in there
- the water pressure was not brilliant which made it quite hard for me to have a proper shower and hair wash, we had baths everyday instead
- it would also be good if there could be gates on the entrance to the cabin which follows round to the back decking because we were almost joined by a dog in the hot tub as it managed to come round the back!
- possibly some lighting around the cabins/deck as it was very eery in the pitch black at night!

Nonetheless I still had an amazing visit and the value of the visit was amazing too, definitely will be coming back, and I recommend anyone reading this to go!!

Thanks to those who run the cabin site and the farm next to the cabins :)

Lilli and Jordan xx

Hi Lilli,
Thank you for your feedback. I am glad you enjoyed your stay. We have found many guests that have loved the privacy of your own hot tub and sauna.
We try to make the arrival of our guests as smooth as possible, so sometimes if guests do arrive quite late, we have found it easiest for them to leave the letter with all the instructions you need.
Starting next week we will be renovating our games room to make it more of an asset to the site, we agree that it needs some work, so we are focusing on improving that for our guests.
We will also look at the other things that you suggested, especially the water pressure to make sure that gets sorted.
There is lighting around the cabin and deck area, there are 4 lights that shine onto the deck area where the hot tub is, but we will review to see if more are needed.

Thank you so much for your review and we are glad that you enjoyed your stay! We hope to see you again soon!

These are not log cabins. The Elite lodge was not luxurious either. Could have been cleaner, and with less dust and cobwebs. The supreme jet showers were also a bit naff. The games room is worth a look at, just for the comedy value. To be honest we were all bored of looking at the bush whilst in the hot tub, and having our curtains closed all day so the neighbours could not see in!!
I feel it is described ALOT more better than what it actually is.
We have been on proper log cabin holidays, that we have not wanted to leave!!! With Athelington hall lodges we left a day early!

Thank you for feedback. I am sorry that your stay did not live up to your expectations. A significant amount of our guests love the peace and tranquilty that our site offers, out in the countryside away from the busyness of life.
Regarding the issues that you mentioned; we are now in the process of renovating our games room to make it more of an asset to our guests, adding free internet access, a pool table, table football and a mini hi-fi.
Regarding the cobwebs, I have spoken to our cleaners for them to be more thorough when they clean the lodges. We pride ourselves on having clean cabins, so this will be addressed.
Again, thank you for your feedback that we have taken into account and I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us.

After reading some of the reviews about this lodge we were really apprehensive about our holiday and it actually tainted the build-up to our trip. We needn't have worried. Yes the lodge is slightly tired but it was nowhere near as bad as some reviews would make out. There was the odd cobweb and loose bit of wallpaper, and yes the veranda could have done with paint, but did it affect the quality of our holiday? Of course not. Also, having four children with ages ranging from 4 to 14, it's a lot less stressful not to have to worry about perfect decor! The beds were very comfortable, and the lodge was so cosy. It also had a decent size TV which the children were thrilled about! The bottom line with this kind of holiday is that if my children are happy, I'm happy, and they really were. There was lots of space for them to run around, a table tennis table in the games room and a trampoline. They loved the hot tub which was lovely and warm, and when the children allowed my husband and me to go in we thought the views were beautiful and we especially loved that it was uncovered so we could appreciate the stars at night. The negative comments about the farmer’s dog we found were totally unjustified. She became an extended member of our family. She was so friendly but not annoying, and the children absolutely loved playing with her. If you're looking for a good value, relaxing, stress free and child friendly holiday I think this is the one to go for. If you do want something of a higher standard and more modern you might want to consider paying extra for the Elite cabins, we didn’t feel it necessary though and have already book up for next year and can’t wait.

We have just got back from a lovely and very relaxing stay at Athelington Hall. We stayed in an Elite 2 lodge which was very spacious, well equipped and decorated to a high standard. Private Hot tub and sauna were enjoyed by all! Our children aged 9 and 7 loved the outdoor space these cabins provide which include trampolines, small park, fishing and an indoor games room [could do with a makeover]. Our dog Coco also had an amazing time playing with the friendly farm dogs! Produce can be bought from the farm house, eggs, sausage, bacon etc... all were delicious! We would like to thank Peter for a wonderful stay and look forward to returning soon.

Timed our trip perfectly as managed to book 5 days the only time it was hot in march. Loved this place. Very modern, clean and well equipped in the kitchen ie dish washer and washing machine. The site is very quiet so perfect for a romantic getaway. Own private jacuzzi on terrace and sauna in bathroom is a must!! So upgrade to the elite cabins, you will regret it of you don't. You defintely get your moneys worth with this place. Nothing bad to say about it at all! And planning on booking for next year.
