“Oak lodge its a caravan not a log cabin”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2011

We had booked through hoseseasons for 4 night break 7th november 2011 - 11th november 2011. We arrived and were disspointed that the lodge wass actually a caravan with wheels hidden under the wooden cladding. The elite 1 and 2 looked better but were still caravans not log cabins. The hottub has so called by vistors booked been cleaned out on the 7th but through experience we know that they will not heat up fully in time so this was hard to beleive when we went into the tub and our swimwear on exiting was covered in dead flies and fluff.
We then tried to cook in the kitchen which does not have a blind and the pans were dirty and also frying pan filthy. The tea towel smelt horrible and left your hands smelling of old damp not washed smell. The shower was covered in mildew and mould and then we went into the bedroom to find the draws full with flies. I have never complained about a place but had to let people now if they are going to oak lodge how bad this place was. However The locations is great and fab dog walking but this did not change the accomadation and the fact I ended up with bad upset stomach which might not be connected but as we felt so dirty we came home after 2 nights and will never be going back. We took pictures of the guest book and we were not alone with issues but they still do not get sorted out. The beds were also very hard and we could not sleep and are please to be home to get some rest

We stayed here in the Easter holidays and booked through the Hoseasons website.

The lodge was superb! Spacious open plan living area/kitchen with good quality furnishings and equipment. Everything you need is provided, the kitchen area was better than ours at home!

Two comfortable bedrooms (one en-suite) as well as family bathroom. The sunny veranda complete with patio furniture and hot tub was wonderful.

The site is ideal for children - huge grassy area where they can play football etc. with no traffic to worry about. Trampolines are also provided.

The area is very rural, so a car is a must. The downside to this is that there isn't much in walking distance (particularly if you have children) so a trip to the pub for an evening meal will require a car journey.

However, many places of interest nearby. Would recommend Southwold and Aldeburgh - two very pleasant coastal towns. Those with children would enjoy 'Africa Alive' near Lowestoft and 'Bewilderwood' near Wroxham.

Superb holiday, tranquil setting. Would recommend and visit again.

This is our 5th year to athletington hall and as alway a fabulous holiday. Peter can't do enough for you and is always so friendly. We always stay in the normal cabins which are perfect on a tighter budget. this year we upgraded to the Elite cabins, are they worth the extra money, yes! They are larger, warner, sunny veranda all day jacuzzi on balcony and the rooms are well laid out. Every thing a luxury kithcen shoudl be with open plan lounge, perfect. to be honest could live in this all year round that nice. The kids love it 8 and 10 yrs old. they get to go out and play in the field on the play are and on the trampolines. Yes the games room is basic but the kids don't care they can run free which they can't do at home. Booked for next year already , came back this year fully refreshed which is saying somehting with 2 lively boys.

We travelled to Suffolk for two nights(would have liked longer) during the Easter school holidays. The log cabin was almost brand new and was a real luxury! We had a fab hot tub set into the deck which we used every day and we were surprised to find a sauna in one of the bathrooms! The site/farm was very peaceful, just the odd tractor going past now and again. All rooms were contemporary and very smart with piped radio in every room, flat screen tv, ensuite bathroom to master bedroom-we were spoilt!
We had great weather and spent a day in Southwold-pretty traditional seaside town with a great pier and colourful beach huts. Another day was spent in Aldeburgh which was very interesting with its16th century town hall on the beach front! Quite an upmarket town and very friendly.
The area surrounding Atherlington hall is very rural and quite remote-you need a car. But we loved this, driving through one tiny hamlet after another-very, very English indeed.Beautiful architecture and wonderfully friendly locals. Highly recommend the area and Atherlington Hall if you want to get away from it all.
