“Awesome meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2014

We went with 4 of us and we all enjoyed our meal very much. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was excellent. We didn't feel scrammed in. Perfect place to go for a perfect meal.
The waiter was excellent and made the experience enjoyable.

“Bad news!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2014

Looks like El Olivo has closed we were there last week and it's all shut up - pity as we have had many lovely meals there over the past few years!

“Delicious food, lovely ambiance, best in El Zoco”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2014

Decided to try El Olivo last night after reading that it had been taken over and improved. We weren't disappointed. The restaurant has been furnished out in French Bistrot style, and is really welcoming inside, you would think you were in France! The menu was very French orientated with Foie Gras, French Onion Soup on the starters, along with some other Spanish favourites such as Pil Pil. My party ordered the French Onion Soup which was very nice, much lighter than one would expect of this dish, but very good.We also chose the prawns pil pil, and I must say it is the best we have tasted on the coast. A very generous portion of prawns, and the main highlight of the dish was that they were fresh prawns, not the hard once frozen prawns most restaurants tend to use - delicious. For the main course three of us went for the Argentinian steaks (one Sirloin, two fillets) and they were absolutely delicious. I would say the best steak I have had in Spain, and we have had an apartment here for 15 years. The steak came with a beautifully presented salad dressed with finest olive oil, and french fries served in a wire basket. In addition to this you could choose an accompanying sauce, and we all opted for peppercorn which was creamy and tasty and served on the side. The last member of our party went for the confit of duck, which she said was delicious, with a gentle orange sauce interwoven with the pureed potato. We skipped dessert as we were full at this stage and went straight to coffee! All in all a lovely meal in a very nice ambience, and we would highly recommend it. It's about time El Zoco had a really decent restaurant with fresh local ingredients, so well done El Olivo, we will be back..
p.s. As a suggestion maybe you should have a board outside on the pavement saying open, as we didn't realise he entrance was through the big wooden doors as they were closed!
p.p.s. the fresh baked bread and local fine quality olive oil was delicious!!

The service has sometimes been mediocre here but last night the service, food and wine was excellent. A very good team who worked very well collectively.

“Tucked away in a corner but worth finding”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2013 via mobile

my wife and I have been to this restaurant several times as we visit this area on a regular basis. We have never been disappointed with the food which is consistently of a high standard. This week we went with friends and because it was out of season, I didn't feel so positive. It was quiet but strangely the service was a little slower than the usual high standard.

We shared a T-bone steak which was well cooked and more than enough for two. Our friends had the grilled salmon and the suckling pig, and the latter was expensive and not overwhelming.

The house white wine was OK and priced at the average for the area.

We will go again but probably after we have revisited some of the neighbouring restaurants. First timers will enjoy their first visit and I recommend them to give it a try.
