We stayed here for one night and to be honest I wouldn't have been able to stay a second due to the room being unpleasantly hot. As we were at the front on the road, which is reasonably busy and noisy, we couldn't have the windows open and none of us slept well. Rooms at the back would probably have been ok though. The shower was a bit tricky and kept running scorching hot every few minutes without warning. Also only one of the lightbulbs were working in the room but as we were only there one night we didn't mention it until we left so I'm sure that would be sorted out. The room itself was fine and nicely dedcorated.

The staff were pleasant though and breakfast was fine, although annoyingly had to be ordered the night before.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that isn't on the road.

Myself, wife and in-laws dined here one evening in the summer. The mezze choice is very good, especially for vegetarians. Can recommend the halloumi, patatas bravas and mushroom croquettes. Service average, and they are very suspicious (wanting to keep your payment card behind the bar). Nice garden on a pleasant evening. Quite surprised about the very negative reviews, the food is not that bad.

We had lunch here and the best thing presented to us were the duck rolls with Hoi Sin sauce, hardly what I would consider Mezze style food but tasty none the less. From there it goes down hill. Portions are far too large, and the food is almost entirely bland. Most of the menu consists of varying ingredients wrapped in filo pastry and deep fried in the same oil. This has the effect of merging the flavour of everything from chips to prawns into one dull homogenous taste. To elaborate further I would far rather have real Chorizo than buckets of cheap paprika flavoured sausage, I would rather five or six tasty and properly cooked king prawns than a plate full of overcooked shrimp. Quantity has overrun quality in every respect. I find it hard to believe that an established brand like this with two or three other outlets could get it so wrong. It is infuriating that they seem to believe that the modern restaurant goer would swallow this food as anything like authentic. This may have have been seen as acceptable in the 70's but it will not cut it in today's market. A real shame given the obvious investment that has been made in the building. I will not be visiting their other premises and if I were a betting man, (which I am,) I would bet the current guise of the Ship and Castle lasts no longer than another 18 months. Disappointing.

Having heard so much about the substantial investment made by the "Mezze Group", we diverted off the M5 to lunch here today. It is clear that many millions have been spent on the refits at the chain locations, what a shame that corners appear to have been cut in the most important area of all - the staff! All appeared to be extremely young and just going through the motions! When we entered we were not allowed to sit where we wanted, but where the staff wanted us to sit!
The food was not cheap and the menu was quite bland with no apparent daily specials (if there were, we were not offered any!)
Won't be rushing back !

Booked accommodation here because it was close to Bristol Airport and reviews on Booking.com suggested it was good. Initial reception experience poor; check in at the bar where staff could not find our reservation to begin with. Then asked us if we had booked for seven nights [only one had been reserved by us] then eventually found us. We had booked a "Luxury Suite" but this turned out to be no better than any average room at a budget hotel except that it was somewhat larger. Our luxury room boasted a miniscule wall mounted TV screen, tired décor and very poor lighting. It was impossible to read in bed and opening the curtains exposed you to all and sundry outside, as the room at virtually street level on a busy corner, was bereft of screening or even net curtains.
Our luxurious accommodation didn't even run to a toilet roll holder and the shower had major problems, the tray filling up to the point of overflow. To be fair there was a notice in the bathroom stating that this had been investigated but that nothing could be done about it!
We did eat there in the evening and whilst the food was fine then and the following morning [the inclusive full English Breakfast was very good] nobody seemed to be exerting any control and the performance of the staff seemed confused and shambolic.
It seemed to us that the emphasis was on the restaurant/pub with accommodation very much an after thought. We would not stay here again.

Spent 1 night here while in the area on business first impressions were upon entering the bar was some of the kitchen staff were all sat on one of the tables chatting this is not a good first impression! My collegue and I approached the bar to be met by a staff member who was average no welcome or greeting just a very business like approach!

The rooms are tastefully decorated but are looking a little tired now we didnt eat at the pub as the menu looked a little to fussy I slept well because I have ear plugs my college complained on noise!

Breakfast was ok full english was fine but no toast or cereal were offered?? Also we asked for a second cup of tea to be told you may have 2 pots of tea but after that I have to charge you??? This is why your only getting an average and I will not be returning!

We had previously visited the Ship & Castle last year and thought the Sunday lunch was superb and therefore for a birthday treat we decided to have lunch there again - what a disaster - our food order was taken - including a starter of olives. Our main course arrived with no sign of the olives. Three adults and a child had the Sunday roast but it looked more like a frozen dinner that you could buy in a supermarket, only two roast potatoes with a yorkshire pudding and three very thin small slices of beef. The portions of vegetables were totally inadequate. One guest ordered the Monkfish with prawns, and this was supplied with the princely number of 2 prawns. Once we had finished the main course, we were left waiting for 20 minutes or more, one of the party had to go and ask for the plates to be cleared and for the dessert menu. Upon receiving the dessert menu we decided that as the quality of lunch was so poor we wondered what the desserts would be like and decided not to risk it! Although the young staff tried very hard to be helpful there appeared to be a total lack of direction by senior staff. What a shame that this popular venue has gone downhill so fast.
