Owner description: The falls, in the northern half of Yoho park, drop 833 ft -- making it one of the highest waterfalls in Canada. The falls are spectacular in early summer, when melting snow and ice provide ample runoff.

“Magnificent”

Magnificent thundering waterfall that is well worth the trek across the bridge. We stayed at the bottom of the falls due to a lack of timeout you can walk up to see the view from higher up.

“Easy To Get To”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

From the Trans-Canada Highway, the drive to Takakkaw Falls is only 10 minutes or so. You can see the falls from a couple of miles away. Walking to the falls from the car park is easy, even for old people. We were there in early September, and the water flow was still quite high, but the water flow freezes up and stops in the winter. The spray from the falls is cold, and you have to take pictures from some distance away to avoid getting your camera wet. The roaring sound is impressive, and the height is amazing.

“Very Magestic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

We decided to go up to the falls by car this past August. We knew you could hike in from Emerald Lake to see them but decided that it'd be easier with our 4 year old to just drive up.

A couple of things to know about the drive.
First it is a seasonal road that will be closed at certain times. Pay attention to those times.
Secondly there are three tight switch backs. If you are towing a trailer or in something bigger than an SUV DO NOT GO up this road. Nothing like watching an stupid Motorhome rental (Yes I saw one) approaching the switchbacks and trying to figure out how to do the turn.

The falls are great. We parked across from the hostel and walked about 1KM up to the river. Then we followed the great path up to the fall base themselves. It was hot that day (30C+) and the falls were very refreshing as they are glacial fed and the spray form them cooled us right off.

Truly worth the stop. Just remember you need a national park pass to access this spot. They will not "charge a gate admission" but if a park ranger finds your car with the pass you will be ticketed.

Incredible. Thats all I can say really. The sound of the falls was amazing and just the sheer size of it. Don't miss out of this incredible experience.

Worth the detour off the highway - amazing falls! Trails are great and lots of pullouts on the way up!
