“An experience not to be missed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

We did this cruise/walk on the recommendation of fellow travellers and are so glad we took their advice. It was our third cruise in the past two and a half weeks - Arthur River and Wineglass bay being the other 2 - and they paled in comparison. Jim the skipper and Barb the deckie/tour guide/host did a great job. The cruise was breathtaking and Jim's skill in moving the vessel into the cave and between rocks is admirable. We had a bonus detour on the way back to see the painted cliffs and a small quarry site and even managed to view Jim's "phantom" wombat grazing on the cliff. A truly memorable experience created by 2 people who so obviously enjoy what they do. Thankyou!

“One Day on Maria Cruise and Walk Day Tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

This day was absolutely fantastic and one I would recommend to anyone who wishes to experience a little bit of "experience" tourism. Firstly, the vessel that we sailed on was very well equipped. Safety was a priority for the crew and visitors were given the heads up regarding life jackets and life boats. Captain Michael and assistant Kirsty made us feel very welcome and confident that this day was well planned and was going to be well executed.

We travelled to Maria Island across the passage to the World Heritage listed convict settlement of Darlington. We docked to allow day visitors to head onto the island, then we headed out of the safety of the breakwater and south to see one of many incredible geological attractions that the island has to offer. Being able to see such sites as the Fossil cliffs and Painted Cliffs from the comfort of the boat was incredible. We saw Sea Eagles, a beached Sea Lion enjoying the sun, half a dozen whales, breaching and slapping about in the water, a seal who had caught an enormous fish, and witnessed the seal flinging the fish around to break it up into bite sized pieces.

The knowledge of both the captain and assistant was extensive and we had many of our questions answered to our satisfaction. The captains background in marine biology and diving was evident in his shared knowledge with us.

The cruise around the island allowed us to see the amazing Dolomite cliffs and incredible rock formations and also the many caves that have been carved out by the relentless waves over millenia.

We bought our own lunches on board, but there was ample tea and coffee and cold water available.

We truly enjoyed our cruise experience with East Coast Cruises and would happily recommend this attraction to visitors to Tasmania.
