As many Passengers that enjoy Cruises will agree, the Tours organised by the Ship are oftern very dear! On a recent Cruise to New Zealand we decided to "do our own thing". Getting off the Ship at Tauranga we met up with Carlton Tours and enjoyed, (along with 10 other people) a fantastic tour of the Bay of Plenty. The driver, who doubled up as the Tour Guide, was fantastic. His narration commenced as we pulled out of the Port. The key places that we visited were where the Kiwi fruit were grown, (I or E) 360. Amazing what can be done with the humble Kiwi Fruit, (Chinese Gooseberry). Even the wine is flavoursome, much like a Reisling! On to the Hot Springs, then the Mud pools and explanations as to how, why, etc. We then experienced a traditional Maori Welcome at Rotorua. The Tour also included major surrounding areas and buildings of interest, and, I'm pleased to say, no Botanical Gardens or Churches. All in all the Tour lasted approx 6 hours and there was a lunch break, (lunch not included in the price). The cost, about 30% of that which the Ship was charging. Very enjoyable & Highlt recommended.
