“Friendly hosts, clean facilities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2011

We spent two nights camped in a tent at this park. The hosts were helpful and friendly as we got advice from them on a mechanic recommendation and they allowed us to store our surfboards while we were out.

We even mistakenly left our mobile charging in the kitchen before we headed out for the day. Upon return we found that the hosts had placed it somewhere secure (locked in a storage room) and had even kept it plugged in to charge.

The bathrooms were quite clean and the showers were nice. The kitchen and BBQ area were great. The grounds are very well kept. The layout can feel a bit cramped in some areas but the park wasn't booked up so we didn't have any issues with sharing space.

It's about 15 minutes to walk to the shopping centre and there were grocery stores up there as well as other shops. It's located in more of a residential area so it has a different feel to some other holiday parks that were in a more rural/forest setting. But Mount Maunganui is a busy busy place so space is at a premium in the area I reckon.

There is a small TV room but as we were out and about most of the time we didn't spend a lot of time using it.

Overall, if I were in the area on a budget again this would be a great choice!

This is a typical camper park. We stayed in a motel room. The room was a bit cramped; full size bed and four bunk beds. The ensuite bathroom was very small with a shower only. TV and fridge in the room. There is a TV/pool room on site, a kitchen/BBQ area and laundry facilities. The very nice beach is only a few blocks away. A large shopping mall with a supermarket is a 20 minute walk away. Outside the front gate, there is a small convenient store and take-out restaurant, with an assortment of youths loitering around. Some of the houses in the area also seemed to be having noisy parties. The area was not terrific, but we did not feel unsafe.

We stayed at the Golden Grove at the suggestion of some friends who had stayed before. We'd been staying in motels and parks thoughout New Zealand on our 4 week trip and this place was by far the best value for money, and the biggest welcome we got anywhere (and we stayed in some truly awesome places!). The owners, Deb and Max took great care to ensure we knew where everything in the park was, as well as local things to do and some 'tips' on getting the best out of our stay. Having the fantastic beach so close was good enough for us! Our accommodation room was very clean, obviously cared for and had all the facilities we needed including a great fridge for the wine and groceries travellers have! We'll be going to Golden Grove again - as soon as we can get over to New Zealand again. Thanks Deb and Max for a wonderful stay.

We have been going to Golden Grove for over 10 years and each time it's like coming home. I have always felt very safe there both day and night. Max and Debra have a high standard of expectation when it comes to the behaviour of the partrons. Each year that we go it's like catching up with the old friends who go there regularly. We have always found the standard of cleanliness to be very high and the grounds are beautifully kept. keep up the great work Max and Debra and I would recommend this as a holiday venue to people and families of all ages.

We booked this holiday park through recommendations from friends, which we found to be a great choice.

Upon arrival our reception was friendly and informative regarding the area and local activities.

We were shown personally to our lodge accommodation which we found to be clean, tidy and well presented.

Upon checking out the camp facilities these were found to be of a very high standard. All the amenities were well serviced and presented.

The beauty of this holiday park is that there is a great selection of accommodation to suit all travellers budgets and needs.

We thank our hosts for making our stay very enjoyable and look forward to our return visit in the near future.

Our stay in an ensuite cabin at Golden Grove Holiday Park ended up in unpleasant experience. First 2 cockroaches in bathroom, 2 in the bed and the rest, a total of 8, all over the rest of the cabin. Later I found out, that cabin beside us had problems with these cockroaches as well.

Following this issue we have responded directly with this customer to acknowledge that this situation was not good enough and to apologise directly. We have taken appropriate measures to rectify the situation.
As we pride ourselves on the level of cleanliness and service customers receive at our park we are disappointed that the standard that this customer received was not at the level that she had experienced in the past.
