Just over the Panamerican way, between Atuntaqui and Natabuela (aprox 15 min from Otavalo to Ibarra) there is the BEST place eat a "fritada" that is pork meat fried into its own fat ..., here it is made also with a "secret" ingredient that gives it a red colour and a fantastic flavour. Served with mote and tostado (two corn varieties - one boiled and another fried) and boiled potatoes. It might be purchase by portion or even by weigth. Price is reasonable and the facility is huge, so, although usually there is a lot of people, space is not a problem. No service issues as after you pay immediately self pick up your order. This is a place you HAVE to put into your planner!!
