5 hard-to-piease ladies spent a short time in Buckden to celebrate their 75th birthdays. The weather was iffy and much of North Yorkshire under water but we managed to enjoy ourselves in this friendly, busy village. In the short time we were there we only had time to eat at the Buck Inn though we were assured that the other 2 "eateries" are also good.
We read previous reviews and were prepared for the fact that much still needs to be done, particularly to the decor, but already you will find a warm welcome, a roaring fire, excellent beer and good food. Prices are as expected, the cooking assured, the house wine very reasonable and drinkable. The pub is at the heart of the community and we felt very much at home.
Later that evening we found water coming through the ceiling of our rented house and were very grateful to the staff at the Buck Inn for the loan of buckets and bowls! We wish them luck in there efforts to revitalise this pub. So far so good.
