“Great Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

We were heading back from Ingleton in the lovely weather and decided on the spur of the moment to stay over. We were made very welcome and although they couldn`t put us up they helped us to get in at the Barn accross the road. We then came back for an evening meal and with little notice they put on a lovely spread for us. Very friendly Land lord and staff and the food was great...thank you

“Good fresh food served beautifully cooked”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

Early Sunday evening on the way back from a day out. As non- meat eaters, we were pleased at the range of choice available. The fennel and chestnut stew was top bistro quality. All the food was seved promptly, freshly prepared with fresh market veg..... The good choice of real ales balanced the food perfectly.

“Nice pub and good pub grub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

During my week long stay in Long Preston I ate at the Boar’s head on three occasions’ and was not disappointed with the level of service or standard of food at any time. I was also impressed with the bar staff who remembered my drink’s order on the first night despite it being a very busy Bank Holiday weekend trade and carried that on throughout the week.
Food wise the Boar’s head serves the usual pub food but to a very good standard.
Over the course of the week I sampled the following dishes:
Bury black pudding starter with mustard sauce – this is very nice but a little large for a starter comprising of a link of the best bury black pudding topped with a rasher of back bacon on fruit chutney covered in a mustard sauce and accompanied with a salad garnish.
Gammon and chips which came with a fried tomato, home made onion rings in a very good crispy batter and either egg or pineapple. This was a very good example of this basic dish with very generous portions.
Pork loin stuffed with black pudding and covered in a crispy bacon coating. This was presented with a selection of vegetables and new potatoes and came with a sauce. This was tasty but due to the pork and black pudding rather dry despite the sauce and I was unable to finish it as a result.
Medium-rare sirloin with chips, home made onion rings, a whole grilled tomato, whole grilled field mushroom and pepper sauce. The steak was cooked to perfection and the meal as a whole was excellent. The pepper sauce was a little disappointing though as it was very mild and therefore did not compliment the steak as I am used to.
