“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012

If you are in the Santa Teresa area, the hot springs are worth a visit. The water is decently warm, clean, and not smelly. Be warned that this place gets crowded in the late afternoon.

“crystal clear”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2012

Crystal clear water, can hear the roaring of the river going by, there is also individual changing rooms and showers. The nearby town of Santa Teresa is also very cute.

“Well worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2012

On the banks of the Urabamba river these are a lovely spot to spend a few relaxing hours. Much of the original infrastructure was washed away in the floods of 2011 but the 3 hot pools were untouched. The water is warm and crystal clear, so much better than the spings in Aguas Calientes.

There are private changing facilities and showers and some ladies who will sell you snacks, soft drinks or beer.

Combined with a trip to the nearby ziplines it makes for a nice day out from AC.

“World-Class Hot Springs Beside a Roaring River”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2011

The little jungle town of Santa Teresa is gradually gaining importance on the tourist circuit due to its location on the “back door” route to Machu Picchu which avoids the expensive trains from Cusco. There is another reason for coming here, however: the Cocalmayo hot springs outside of town.

Situated beside the Urubamba River, just downstream from Machu Picchu, the hot springs are channeled into three large pools, one hot and two warm. The water is exceptionally clean and clear due to the large volume of water flowing through the pools. There is no sulfur smell. The pools have stone bottoms. The outflow from the pool nearest the river is channeled into “hot showers.”

The municipality of Santa Teresa does a superb job of maintaining the pools. Blue-vested guards enforce the rules; the whole place is clean and family-friendly. The cost is a minimal S/5 (US$1.85) for foreigners. Bathing suit rental is S/2. The pools are open 24 hours. Camping is available for a nominal fee.
