We stayed in this lovely B&B for two nights. The rooms are very spacious and the location is very quiet and close to Mount St. Michaels which is well worth a visit. The first night we had an excellent rest and breakfast the next day was very nice.
Unfortunately the second night didn't go that well as we found out when we returned from visiting some family at 11PM. We couldn't get into the house as the door was locked from the inside with a dead bolt. We rung the doorbell but nobody answered. We tried the two mobile phone numbers we had from the owners but nobody answered. We tried the land line, which we could hear ringing, but nobody answered. We tried this for about an hour and finally I hit the horn of my Starlet, but nobody answered. The only thing to do was to curl up and try to sleep in the car, which was very frustrating.
At the crack of dawn the owners were up making the breakfast and saw our car parked in the driveway. After we explained what happened they apologised and explained that they were quite a way out in some back building and couldn't hear the doorbell or the phone (although I did wonder about the mobile phones). The owner said he would take the dead bolt off straight away as this wasn't for guest use and this was the first time that anybody had used this. They gave us a hot drink and we were allowed to go to the room and sleep (as we obviously didn't do in our car) and have our breakfast as late as we wanted and we didn't have to pay for the night, which was really nice from them.
When we finally had breakfast we found out what happened. Apparently an American couple had checked in as well. Unfortunately for us the guy was one of those obnoxious Americans that you do get. He apparently thought that when he was in the house he could lock the door so no one else could go in. I suppose that's normal for Americans as they think that they are the only ones in the world and they only care for themselves. I'm also sure they heard our horn as a light came on, but of course they didn't bother to check being the obnoxious people that they are. When we were having breakfast they were just leaving and the only thing he could do was laugh. Not an apology or anything, but what can you expect from an obnoxious American? It's a shame they travel to nice places and ruin it for people who come to enjoy the country side.
So we had a lovely stay here but a bit of a disappointment at the end although the owners tried their best to sort us out. Providing the dead bolt is gone and the owners make sure that they have at least one phone on for emergencies I would definitely stay here again!
