“Very good hotel in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights as part of our tour of the Bodegas of La Rioja. The welcome was very good, there are always staff available to help, we were upgraded to a room with a balcony on the second floor which was most appreciated. The bedroom itself was clean and contemporary and the bed was lovely.

The breakfasts are superb, great selection and really fresh produce.

There are plenty of different spaces within the hotel to relax in peace and quiet and we will definitely return in the future.

The town itself is very quiet but you are within 5 minutes drive of other villages with great places to eat and drink and who can complain with 33 vineyards in a village of only 300 inhabitants!

What attracted us to the hotel was a description of a very special architecture and the 4 *. The first impression we got when we came in was, it was not quite finished with the design. There were no plastered and painted walls. From an allergy perspective, it is good, but something was missing practically in the room. The shower cabin was very slippery and there was no handle you could hold on to. The door to the toilet was symbolic and could not hold odors and noises outside.
Breakfast and dinner were of high quality, however, was the 6 courses menu with wine for € 70 not worth the money.
The city is VERY quiet except for the church bells. There are no other restaurants in town, but only 2-3 small bars. On the other hand, there is a very fine Vinotek in connection with hotel. Here you can taste about 10 different wines and buy tappas.

We had a great time staying at the Hotel Viura, which was excellent in nearly every way.

Firstly, the many positives:
- Great location in a nice little village, and well placed to go and visit the many wineries nearby
- Very nicely done inside, with great rooms and public areas
- Service was generally good and accommodating (with one exception, see below)
- We got very lucky on the timing. We were there at the time of the village festival in May. The hotel had warned us beforehand that this might mean that the village was busier and noisier than usual. And it was, but that didn’t disturb us at all. The big upside was that there was a tasting competition to find the best wine of the village (out of something like 48) which for a fee of €5 we could take part in. It was great to mix with the locals and drink (lots and lots of) their wine. The best bit was the dinner afterwards which was almost entirely full of locals (only us and one other couple were foreign), which was great fun, and with great food – and more of the wine. I know not everyone will get the chance to experience this, but if you do happen to be there at the time, definitely take part…
- More generally the food was excellent in the restaurant and – as you’d expect – had a great selection of wines

The negative:
- The one downside of our timing was that on the night we got there the restaurant was closed. Because the village is so small there was nowhere else in walking distance, and we really didn’t want to get back in the car again, so we had to eat in the hotel bar. The menu was short and the food was really quite disappointing (compared to the other great meals we had had in Spain, and the ones we’d go on to have in the hotel restaurant). And the service was awful. There was a lady who was pleasant but it must have been her first night, and the man was just rude and unhelpful. The worst service we had on our trip. But I think it might just have been an off night. The same guy served us in the restaurant a couple of nights later and he could not have been nicer or friendlier. Weird. Either that or he has a twin brother, and there is one good twin and one evil twin. Don’t let this in any way put you off the hotel, but I would recommend checking that the excellent restaurant is open on the nights you’ll be there.

Overall an excellent stay and well worth seeking out.

Great staff, great location for exploring the little villages around by bike (complimentary hire from hotel) or by car. For a traditional filling lunch with a bottle of white and red rioja head up the hill from the viura by foot to the bodagas Arabarte. Back to the hotel....great breakfast and fantastic rooms. We had room 304 which had a great terrace. Breakfast in bed is at no extra cost and a real treat. Basically loved it!!

Room Tip: Room 304' great terrace and lovely views, especially in the morning from bed (with breakfast)

Adjectives do not describe Hotel Viura! Outstanding, enchanting, luxe, cutting-edge.

Located in the tiny little village of Villabeuna in the gorgeous La Rioja wine region, the hotel itself is art. You may come to visit the Marques de Riscal, but you really must retreat to the Viura if you love contemporary architecture and design hotels.

With industrial touches like glass showers, minimalist furnishings and concrete flooring combined with more homey elements like wood, plants and local art, the hotel manages to be visually stunning and yet both accessible and comfortable. I loved the edgy chalk-mark room signs and the chain link stairwell set off against the luxurious open areas and stunning views of the rural village.

My suite was absolutely luxurious - concrete floors, lush carpet, gorgeous linens, unbelievable views. The patio outside my room, as well as the rooftop patio with sweeping views, were nothing short of incredible.

The bathrooms are spacious, complimentary wireless connection and every amenity you can dream of. The bed and linens were beyond comfortable.

The service at both the front desk and the restaurant is prompt and friendly, and the public spaces in the hotel make you just want to melt and relax.

Room Tip: The suites on the third floor are spacious and have incredible patios.

LOVED THIS HOTEL!!! We just spent three nights in this wonderful hotel and we loved it! The hotel is industrial chic with a fantastic atmosphere and vibe. The rooms are modern and super clean. The staff is SUPER friendly and accommodating. Special thanks to Sheila, Elena and Patricia!!! They arraged our tours to the wineries and gave us great reccomendations. Drinking wine in the rooftop terrace is a must! This hotel made our trip to La Rioja unforgettable!

Highly recommended!!!

I wasn't sure what to expect when I booked this hotel for our recent trip to Rioja. The modern architecture and unique details was just the beginning. The reception/concierge staff were fantastic, because we arrived without any plans and pretty clueless, and in 5 minutes they had booked a tour to the Marques de Riscal wineries for that afternoon, recommended we visited the town of Laguardia, and suggested we dine in the town of Haro and take advantage of the celebrations. Our rooms were very cool. The bathroom had purple glass walls overlooking the room, the bed was amazing and had 5-Star hotel linens, and a super A/C (not common in Spain).
The breakfast in the morning was a delicious buffet that included a-la-carte omelets. The Viura is a gem in the Rioja valley.
