We stayed at a local campsite for a walking weekend and having run the Russian Roulette on the busy and quick road to get to the pub we were disappointed. Two good guest ales, a nice selected on the menu and the dog was welcome too.
We ate over two nights, steak the first night and I had lamb shoulder the second. Whilst not Michelin star quality, it was good, tasty hearty food priced just above standard pub grub.
The decor is typical village pub although I didnt see a roaring fire which would have been nice (it wasnt particularly cold outside but its always nice to see). Considering Crook is a tiny hamlet, the place was really busy on both nights, especially the Saturday.
There are some seats outside but it was dark when we arrived so these were used although as they are close to the road and with some cars driving past at quite a pace, im not sure how pleasant that would be in the height of summer.
If I return to that part of the lakes, I will most definitely return.
