“Family trip away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2012

We stayed a week here in one of the 2 bedroom cabins. The cabins were great - very spacious and clean.
The staff were very friendly - BBQ, kitchen etc was always clean. The only problem was the kitchen and lounge in the shared area flooded badly when it rained which wouldnt make a pleasant stay for campers in tents wanting a change of space.

The only down side was every piece of space was taken up with cabins, tents, campers etc so there was nowhere for kids to just play. There is a great play area - for older kids but nothing really for kids under 4. The cabins faced onto the campground road so you had to watch younger kids around the road which didnt make it very relaxing.

Great location though and overall was a lovely holiday.

Camp ground is lovely. Has had huge improvements since we were there a few years ago. Ladies toilets are lovely. Always clean, not once did I find a loo that had run out of loo paper. Showers awesome, not need to be up at crack of dawn for a warm shower!
Only downfall is it rained majority of the time we were there, that can't be helped, but the tent sites really need better drainage. One time stepped out the tent, the water was up to ankles, which quickly turned to deep sloshy mud. The 10pm lights out is a bit hard, more so when there is a group of you. Even talking quietly can be troublesome. It's camping we all should be relaxing and chatting, as long as everyone is considerate it should never be a problem. If it is don't go camping. No one ever complains that the baby nextdoor cried all night, but talking at 10pm is an issue. Apart from that we will definitely be back for another trip, but will wait until the summer weather is more settled. Camp managers were great!

What a nice, quiet place.
Great, helpful and happy staff.
Stayed there twice in december. Loved it both times.
2 minutes to the beautiful beach.
Great motels - and the playground for the kids, just next to.
Had an awesome Christmas eve.
We'll definately come all the way from Denmark once again, to stay at this lovely camp.
So much to see in this area - have to try it!!!!

It's a lovely camping ground with spacious sites. Plenty of room for large tents, gazebos and cars etc. No problems getting adjacent sites with friends so we could spread out even more. The ladies block is very modern and I never had a cold shower. We never experienced any water lying around despite quite alot of rain which we cant really blame our hosts for. Would definitely stay again if going to Waihi.

It floods, This campsite floods, the kitchen and lounge was under water by 2 inch's. We had heavy rain, not civil emergency stuff.
By talking to others, it seems this campsite floods time after time every year at some stage.

Our group bookings were also stuffed up, so our sites were spread out - very not cool. 3 Sets of managers in one year doesn't help - but the booking system needs to be looked at.
And once one of our members left (As their site was flooded - loseing a few hundred dollars no refunds folks), their site was booked out to other persons, even though it was already paid for, and not a mention of credit.

We had a 'Lesiure Lodge' which is a self - contained unit. Everything was spotless, bedding, pillows were clean. Loved the new landscaping around the unit. Just one suggestion, need more large trees to be planted since it looks a bit plain. You just can't go wrong deciding to stay here.

We stayed for a couple of nights in one of the motel units. We were very surprised by how spacious it was, easily handling four people but six wouldn't be a huge hassle either. A Carport and a carpad ensured heaps of parking. A full sized fridge/freezer was also a bonus. Great playground for the kids and a short walk to the beach. Great place to spend the summer.
