“Excellent stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2013

My fiance and I had a great stay here. The property is well kept and the room we stayed in was clean. The views of the surrounding mountains and landscape are beautiful. We engaged in most of the activities that they offered such as the zip line and the horseback riding. None of the rooms have air con but it is not needed at all in the mountains, in fact it would have been nice if the outdoor swimming pools were heated because it was quite chilly swimming in them. We did some resort hopping while on vacation and this by far was the best place we visited and I plan on coming here and staying again.

We traveled Negros for 2.5 weeks by car. This is a place you can't miss on your (romantic) road trip. everything was great!!! The owner (Albert Garbanzos) is a very nice and friendly guy who designed the resort him self. At the Resort is also a amazing zip line. After the zip line take a couple margarita's enjoy the view and the lovely pool.

It is never easy to run a resort hotel. You must find a great location, make it unique in decor and personality, and finally you must provide excellence every day. La Vista has been around for two years now, so they are past the "free pass" stage where you can make excuses for things not working right. The crack and marks on the bedroom wall also testifies that this place is not some freshly opened facility.

I came to La Acosta based on the past review. The lack of a website gave me little else to go by, so I will try to balance good and bad in a long write up so other can judge for themselves.

First, the location and views from the rooms are beautiful, set in the mountains outside San Carlos. Cool evenings and moderate day times make air conditioning mostly unnecessary to any but the most spoiled westerner. The beautiful pool and terrace adjacent to large (if empty) sports resto-bar were all very clean and beautifully designed. There is no denying that the grounds and overall location/layout give a great starting foundation for a lot of potential.

The appointments in the room are nice. The architect and decorator definately give the place a nice, modern and welcoming vibe. The queen bed dominates the 12 by 12 bedroom, but the mini fridge and simple table/chair with satellite TV on a small Sony Bravia set are tastefully size for the room. The bed is comfortable and better than an older hotel flop mattress to be sure. I don't expect a Marriott or Sheraton dream bed out in rural San Carlos, so no worries there.

The bathroom contains the clothing closet as well. Sliding door to the decent sized shower stall all very beautiful to the eye aesthetically. The sink area has plenty of counter space for ladies to spread out all their usual bottles and tubes of beauty care. Again, very modern fixtures and design.

HOWEVER...this is where the wheels fell off the proverbial bus. The problems are unforgivable ones in the resort/hotel business. The water pressure was horribly low. At times, there was none at all, literally no water flow. At best, it became enough to wash hands and flush the commode, but never enough for a shower (good luck rinsing shampoo from long hair with a trickle from the rainshower fixture). The hot water heater never worked in one room. They then used that as an excuse to move us to another room they had pushed in the first place when they let me pick a room. But it required a great deal of visits to get working in the second room they transferred us to (also never a fun experience, moving rooms). My breakfast grew cold waiting for all the electrical and plumbing workers coming and going. Bad start to the day and then some.

On a less crucial but also negative note, they couldn't seem to keep their satellite tv working. Having had satellite tv myself, this is a mystery, because it is very dependable service once set up properly. Younhave to have a pretty healthy rain storm to block signal, especially up here in the mountains where there is zero tree blockage that others might have in the lowlands. Even on a clear day, they constantly lost signal to where my wife became very irritated trying to watch her evening programs before bedtime. I suggest either the dish is not well aimed or they have a bad booster/splitter after the dish. Again, it's the small stuff that make the experience.

The free breakfast isn't anything to brag about, but I guess they feel free is free. I had to ask to have a menu brought to the room, not willing to let them read the menu to me over the phone as they prefer. It's the little things like this that suggest they need to locate an retain a true hotel-experienced manager to help get this great potential property operating to the level you just know it could operate at with a slightly higher level of effort and experience.

For 3,600 peso per night, I expect much better execution. I've stayed at places half that rate that outperformed except for location. Location and newness here won't last long if people can't shower and be happy with things working as expected as they start their day.

I expect to see great things in the future, but it's not there yet.

I stumbled upon this place in the middle of nowhere, in the dark at 8pm. I had no reservation and the management were not expecting any more guests, but they scrambled to make a room available for me. In the meantime, I sat down for a meal at their excellent restaurant and met the owner. He's an architect from Cebu City, who designed the place himself and spends most weekends there. The owner and the staff could not have been more welcoming and friendly.
After a restful night in the mountain cool, I woke to see the full beauty of the location for the first time. It is perched on the side of a mountain, overlooking a lush green valley with rice terraces and a small village.
The rooms were very modern and comfortable. There was a fan, rather than AC, but in the mountains this poses no problem. There was also an LCD TV and cable. The bathroom was particularly well done.
The resort is very new and they were still putting on the finishing touches. There was some construction ongoing and there were a few small problems. But these detracted little from a very pleasant stay.
