While on the golf course another traveller told us about Villa Deveena in Playa Negra. We set out before sunset on the little dirt road that takes you to the beach town of Playa Negra (which has some of the best surfing in Costa Rica). We found the restaurant and it was fully booked for the night but Joya got us a seat at the kitchen bar where we were treated to all the activity of a busy kitchen. We spent the evening enjoying an excellent bottle of wine, amazing starters - grilled lobster salad and fois grasse followed by the osso bucco and the slow cooked pulled pork. Our meal was so delicious the first night that we made a reservation for New Years Day. The food prepared by chef Patrick and his team was comparable to meals that we have had in restaurants in Paris, New York and Rome. A special treat for me was the Mille Feuille that chef Patrick prepared for me, by request, on our second visit.
We will definitely be sending everyone we know here for a taste of something special in Costa Rica.
