“Whangaroa Harbour - a real treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

Just stayed for one night but will definitely be back. Stayed at Whangaroa Lodge on hill overlooking the harbour. Beautiful views and the lodge has been renovated to a high standard, with one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. Dont go straight into Whangaroa Harbour from the SH 10, turn off before Kaeo towards Matauri Bay and travel north around the coast to Whangaroa Harbour, on a sunny day the little coves have the clearest, blue/green water to be seen and the most gorgeous sandy beaches.

“Stunning scenery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012

One of the most beautiful harbours in the world, also one of the deepest. Everything about this place is magical, from the sculptured rock faces to the tropical native forest that hug the shorelines. A very special place.

“great views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2012

The motel is just above the harbour so the views are spectacular especially in the early morning. Perfect for a bit of photography.

“Fish & Chips”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2012

After a long day visiting the northern part of the north island the Fish Shop was the perfect spot to grab a cold one and some fish & chips. It's a popular spot, so be patient with the seating!

“Very good for fishing and having a break away from touristic places”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2012

Whangaroa Harbour is great for the sea (fishing, sailing, birds) and the walks and visits around and it is a very nice and quiet getaway similar by landscape with Bay of Islands with no shopping. Just go there to eat some fish and chips at the marina, have a drink and watch the sunset, relax and relax. The area was one of the first settlements where European and Maori first lived together so there are some historic places to see around. If you want to know more about this, the small grocery shop at the entrance of the harbor (the only shop) sells an excellent book about Whangaroa area history. Be aware that the place is very small and quiet and you will not find there ATM or petrol station, but in Kerikeri. But we just loved Whangaroa.
