“Amazing view but poorly maintained”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2012

We spent one night at Tannum on the Beach. While the view was spectacular, the room was poorly maintained (e.g. shower tap came off in our hand, bathroom sink tap leaked, kitchen sponge well worn, broken door latch, etc, to name a few). The 'kitchen' was very limited too.

I grew up in this area and remember when this motel was built. The decor has not been updated since construction and the rooms are rather tired and worn as a result.

We paid $190 for a family room for one night. Knowing the location, this was actually my first choice of accommodation in the area so I was thrilled when they had a vacancy for a family room on the date required. Next time we're passing through, I'd be inclined to book further in advance and try other local motels in Boyne/Tannum.

Room Tip: Ask for a room upstairs on the beach side for the best views

The motel room was far too small (you couldn't swing a mouse, let alone a cat). The sliding door to the bathroom/toilet was broken and thus jammed open. There was clear evidence of termite infestation where the wall meets the floor. The smoke alarm cover and battery were disconnected and were lying on a bench. Pillows and bedding were grimy (flattest pillow I have ever seen). Breakfast arrived over 30 minutes late, causing stress as we had an 8am appointment. But the worst experience was the price for one night - this is definitely not a 3 and a half star motel, (as advertised), but we were charged a 4 star price. There is much better accommodation in Tannum Sands for the same cost.

This motel is not worth a stay even though it is placed in nice sourrondings. We arrived late sunday 7.15 pm and the reception shut down 15 min later. The room looked clean at first glance but was unclean. The tiles and the carpet was sticky. There was ants in one of the beds. The Kitchen old and unclean. We have been to many other motels that was more modern, absolutly clean and free wireless wifi at lower prices here in Australia.

After travelling through Australia for a White now we are getting used to pricy accommodations with little value, particular in high season around Christmas and new year.

The motel room was not clean, toilet did not flush and worst: A/C did not work, but don't expect anyone to be on duty on weekends, Sundays or what ever other reason outside a short time window.

Painful with a family; the pool doesn't make up for it.

Like the previous review we had stayed to the Motel part previously. This time we were travelling with friends so decided to book the Blue Water Apts. Rooms were nice but very over priced. Have stayed in nicer places at the Sunny & Gold Coast for far less. Didn't sleep well, don't know why. Wasn't noisy or anything, just felt uncomfortable. Short walk up the hill to the Pub & had a great meal, made a donation to them via the pokies.
Will probably stay at the Motel again, got friendly service & rooms were value for money, will give the apartments a miss next time though.

Check in was simple and we wer in our room in a matter of minutes. It was nothing special, a double and a single bed. However there was a continental breakfast in the fridge that we could make our selves which was a nice surprise as we did not think breakfast was included in the price. We only stayed one night and paid $100. The beach is a 5 minute walk away and was very pretty, like the town itself. The town is very quiet and scenic. The restaurant was good and we enjoyed an evening meal here. I would return to this motel.

We have stayed in the motel part of Tannum on the Beach many times over the years, and for the price, we think it's OK. Quite daggy and unrenovated, but clean and with great ocean views and close proximity to the Esplande and beach.
Recently we decided to try the new BlueWater apartments part of the motel which is (as we discovered) behind the original motel. I think, if we go back, we would choose the daggy motel, as we really didn't think the apartments were worth the extra nearly $100 per night for these reasons:
Most importantly for us, the views were not great. We were on a lower floor, probably thanks to booking through wotif, and looked straight into power lines, the other motel building and houses. You could see the ocean behind, so yes, technically it is ocean view, but really more of suburbia than anything.
The unit was modern and very clean, obviously recently built, but not at all large. The living area was small and the balcony was small too. I wouldn't class this luxury - really more your basic 2 br unit. Large tv with austar that said we had a full austar package - but very few channels - much less than would be available on the basic package at home.
No pool in the apartment complex, but they did let us use the motel pool.
I think all of this would have been OK if the price was a little more realistic. We paid $235 per night on wotif. I guess it is supply and demand - at Bargara, for example, we have stayed in much larger, more luxurious units with full ocean views for less than $200 per night.
