This excellent B&B located on a point overlooking the very picturesque community and harbour of Bay Bulls, is in a perfect location to tour the Avalon Peninsula. It is truly a gem. It is only a 25 min drive south from St. John's along Rte. 10 - The Irish Loop. We wanted to stay outside St. John's, since it was extremely busy during tourist season and festival activities and the prices for a comparable B&B, which were tight, were so much better, getting better value for your money. And, travelling around this area, there's a "WOW" around every corner
We visited the attractions in nearby St. John's with ease from here, the larger whale-watching and birdwatching tours are located right in this community, it is in close proximity to the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve, very close to the East Coast Trail, which is why so many hikers stay at this fine B&B, it is an excellent location for touring down along The Irish Loop, and, is close to the Witless Bay Line which cuts through the centre part of the Avalon, making it easy to travel westward to other parts of the Avalon and also the rest of NL. One doesn't have to travel back to St. John's to continue travelling and it saves a lot of time.
We found this B&B to be one of the very best we stayed in over a number of visits to NL It is magnificently located on a point of land jutting out into the Atlantic. It is in such a quiet, peaceful area of Bay Bulls and the views from all the bedrooms and the magnificent deck are spectacular. We saw minke whales cruising along the shoreline on two separate occasions both from our bedroom and walking down the path to the shoreline. The view of the harbour at sunset was intoxicating and on one night we had the most magnificent full moon shinning over the water. Those images are implanted deep in my memory with beautiful pictures to reinforce.
The lovely, squeaky clean rooms were spacious and well appointed with everything to meet ones needs, and the rooms all had a spectacular view of the ocean. The breakfasts were scrumptious, one being the delicious fruit topped waffles which were so well presented and appetizing and served in a guest dinning room with separate tables overlooking the ocean. She gave us some of her delicious partridgeberry muffins and blueberry bundt cake to take on our journey over the two days.
Rita Williams was the most gracious and kind-hearted host. She and her staff, particularly Linda who does so much of the cooking, were terrific. Rita is a terrific ambassador for both her community of Bay Bulls and NL as a whole. Those ads one sees on TV and newspapers are what you see and get at Rita's charming and tranquil B&B. There's even a sitting room for guests with a variety of books on NL to look through.
We tried to stay at this B&B for a third night, but she was fully booked. However, my next visit, I'll definitely stay at Rita's wonderful Bread and Cheese Country Inn and book well in advance. This place is popular for a very good reason. OSCAR!!
