Owner description: This is a national park, close to amusementparc de Efteling and the cities Tilburg and 's Hertogenbosch/Den Bosch. This park is like a desert, surrounded by a small forest. There are 6 main entries, and at each entry there's a restaurant and lots of parkingspace available. The "duinen" (in English it's called dunes) is a great area to walk or cycle around (there is a special cycle path) and there are tracks for mountainbiking and horsebackriding. Children can build sandcastles or treehouses, and dogs love the area, because at certain places they can run around loose. It's sort of a beach without the sea! Also great for picknicking, sunbathing, children's parties, groupgames, etc. A real popular NP in our province!

“Sand and wood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

A very nice piece of nature, easy to get lost. You can enjoy either the sandy/desert (just the sand, not the heat!) atmosphere or the forest that surrounds it. Been there in summer and winter. Same peaceful atmosphere. Rent a bike to close the loop. It even, occasionally, goes up for a few meters :-)
Truly nice place

“Diverse ecology”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

We visited to benefit from the hot sunny weather NL currently has. If you are approaching from the North try for the Bus 136 from Den Bosch which is nearer the Northern entrance. There are many paths although, without a map, you do have to take a bit of a random route - you can probably get one from the visitors centre in the South but I couldn't find a downloadable one on the website. There is diverse ecology mixing sand along with evergreens similar to other inland parks in Holland. Definitely worth a visit.

“unique place.”

National Park, dunes and forest. Very nice for walking, cicling and horse riding. Several nice cafes at the entrance to take a break and relax.

“Sand all over”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

A small piece of Desert. Sand and trees, that's all it is. If you like a good hike, or just want to have your kids spend some fun time in the biggest sandbox around. Also there is no better place for tree climbing. The active kids will enjoy it.

“Excellent for a half day hike.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

There are separate paths for horse riding, biking, dog walking and hiking.
The forest is quite diverse with different types of trees, that take strange shapes when you enter the dunes.
With some luck, you may encounter a herd of sheep.
The taverns near the entrance/exits are very nice for a drink and a snack afterwards. There is parking space there.

Advice:
- Be sure to wear good hiking shoes that close well, because there's a lot of fine sand (they are dunes, after all).
- Take a picture of the map; the milestones are easy enough to find/follow, but the numbers don't make much sense if you can't see them on the map.
- Beware of horse/sheep/dog droppings along the way...
