“Would stay again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

Wonderful place to stay. The owners told us about the train station history. There are infrequent trains, but didn't notice them unless pointed out (which the owners did, how we noticed them). Even being a light sleeper I didn't notice when they did pass. But it makes the stay even more enjoyable. Upon arrival had tea and cakes and the wood burning stove had already warmed the room.

The breakfast was wonderful! And locally sourced, a big plus for me.

Would definitely go back.

We cannot ask for a better outcome than guests promising to come back and we are very fortunate to have a growing group of "regulars". We would be delighted to add you to that list. Come back soon!

What a fantastic place to stay, we stayed 2 nights end of december and despite the terrible weather we had a lovely stay here, rooms were perfect, food fantastic and hospitality second to none, we'll definately be back when the weather improves to take advantage of the beautiful scenery and walks nearby.... We wanted a couple of nights away to relax, unwind and where noone would bother us for our first weekend away together ... Tudor House gave us all this and more, definately be our little bit of heaven from now on ... Thankyou , Chris and Lisa

Thank you so much. We do all we can with what we can control, but the weather certainly has not been our friend of late! Law of averages say we must get a good spell soon and if so we hope you can find time to come and stay with us again!

Very welcoming and friendly owners. Incredible breakfast menu (unfortunately had other engagements which prevented us taking evening meals but will DEFINATELY be doing so next time we stay here).
Really nice guest lounge with wood burning stove. Excellent stocked honesty bar and relaxed atmosphere throughout the whole stay.
We would highly recommend Tudor House to anyone who likes to feel they can completely relax when staying away from home.

Room Tip: Ground floor dog friendly room is smaller but quite adequate. All other rooms are VAST!!

After five visits to Tudor House we feel that it's about time we put on record just why we love this very special B & B. For a start the location is fabulous, the rooms extremely comfortable and relaxing and the service second to none. We have never failed to receive a warm welcome, complete with home-made goodies, the breakfasts are fabulous and whenever we have eaten in the evening the meals are delicious with several choices - not something available at many places we have stayed. Bob and Sheila always go out of their way to make sure your stay is perfect, the guest lounge is such a bonus too and the fact that the building is a former railway station only adds to its attraction. There are still trains running on the line but we have not found this a problem as they are not too frequent. We have stayed in 4 different rooms since we first visited and all have been excellent - the new deluxe rooms are superb. We are very happy to recommend Tudor House and hope to make yet another return visit very soon!!

Tudor House is absolutely wonderful and I can now see why the actress Bette Davis wanted to take the place home brick by brick to the US after shooting the first five minutes of the 1951 film 'Another Man's Poison' at the ex railway station (yes I did my homework on the location)

The rooms are excellent, we stayed in the deluxe Wensleydale which I can honestly say would put many 4 star hotels to shame. Attention to detail is fantastic with lots of little extras to make your stay comfortable. The breakfast was truly magnificent, we went for the 'Full Monty', an English breakfast made from locally sourced bacon, sausages, black pudding and eggs from Tudor Houses own hens, very scrummy!

After our long jaunts across the Dales we returned each evening to spend time in the guest lounge with it's romantic log fire and savour a drink or two to wind down the day. Shiela and Bob are the perfect hosts and rightly proud of the history of their little B&B and of the beautiful location in which it is set. Tudor House is bristling with mementos of a bygone era and you can truly immerse yourself in the history of the location. As for the train line running next to the B&B, it was after all a train station in the past!!! Trains are few and far between these days and the rails are continuously welded, so pretty quiet ( I personally would have loved to have heard the good old nostalgic 'clickety clack') You are more likely to be woken by a solitary pheasant chirping than a train!

Bob and Sheila are the perfect hosts, we had a lovely time and wholeheartedly recommend Tudor House. We can honestly say it is the best B&B we have ever had the privilege to park our luggage in :)

We were on an international trip of almost eleven weeks staying in hotels or B&B's in nine different countries for a minimum of one night to a maximum of seven nights, Tudor House being one of three establishments that we would never return to. I realise that my review is not in agreement with the majority of favourable reviews for this establishment but it is my honest opinion based on our experience for the two nights we stayed. I notice that our sleeping experience is in agreement with one other reviewer who may have stayed in the same room and judging by the amount of favourable reviews, the problems we experienced may not be as noticeable in other rooms further away from the train tracks.
When we arrived the owner showed me around and said "I suppose you noticed the railway line outside the window" and I replied "No, in actual fact I didn't". If I had noticed, I would have thought that it was an interesting piece of local history, like one of the rooms, which had been the railway station. Not so! The bedroom was unbelievably close to the railway line and as the trains whizzed by every 30 minutes during the day, with the curtains open, we felt uncomfortable with the complete lack of privacy. I am not sure how often the extremely noisy freight trains ran of a night nor am I am sure how often we shot up in the bed but definitely enough to feel the accumulated effects of disturbed sleep during the day. I would advise the owners to add a net curtain that allows the light to enter and gives the appearance of privacy when the curtains are opened during the day. The room was clean, not large but as the bathroom was, we were able to fit one of our suitcases in there and another in the alcove, which worked very well. There was a good variety for breakfast and the host was very helpful with directions. Train buffs may enjoy the extremely close proximity of the trains and very heavy sleepers may not have a problem with the freight trains but we definitely did. The one star for value, location and the room was given for the proximity to the tracks and the disturbed sleep and aggravation we felt. We are not demanding and for what we agree to pay we expect a reasonable room, edible food, a comfortable bed and a good night's sleep, and anything else is a fringe benefit.

Room Tip: If you read or notice that there are train tracks outside the window, ascertain that they are a piec...

This review arrived whilst we were away on holiday so we have had some time to reflect on it.
Firstly we think these guests stayed with us in July, so even with such a long trip involved it is strange that it took until mid November to post the review - perhaps they hope we will have forgotten that they said nothing to us about any of the things mentioned in the review either during their stay or when they checked out. But we would have remembered and they certainly did not.
Secondly, as they specifically asked for a ground floor room, we could offer them no other option but the room they were in. In fact one of our regular guests who was with us that week kindly agreed to change rooms to accommodate this guests request for a ground floor roon, otherwise they would have been upstairs and to the front of the house.
This really brings us to our main concern with this review - research. We still get guest arriving who hadn't realised we are a old station masters house and railway station on a working line, but they are mostly people who book late and decide to spend a few days in the Dales at short notice. Most guests n the kind of extended trip that these people were on do bother to read what we publish and know what to expect.
That includes understanding that we are a B&B, where guests normally have breakfast and depart to explore all the wonderful sights and experiences we have on our doorstep. If guests want to spend extended periods in their room we suggest they book into somewhere that is built for those needs and then the one or two trains an hour that pass us would not disturb them, or indeed intrude on their privacy, although how they can feel that when each passenger train takes 2 or 3 seconds to pass the window and is doing 40 mph or more!
Overall we feel this reviewer and been disingenuous by leaving us claiming they had enjoyed their stay and not mentioning anything about their concerns over noise & privacy and completely unfair in marking us in part at 1/5 for being what we are. Maybe we should give guests a mark based on the nationality rather than who they are or how they behave? However, that would be very unfair as we have had numerous guests from down under who have had a great time with us and been a delight to have stay.

Sheila and Bob, the owners, were very welcoming. Their place is charming and has many lovely touches to make sure you feel welcome and have a really comfortable stay. The breakfasts were delicious and the beds very comfy. We shall be staying there again.
