I almost resisted writing a review because this place is fantastic and I wouldn't want it becoming so busy that we'd struggle to book a pitch!
It's what you might call true woodland camping with a few comforts thrown in for good measure.
We had pitch 1 on a rent-a-tent scheme paying just £60 for 2 nights in July. This meant we simply rocked up with clothes, food, wine (of course), toiletries and sleeping bags - everything else was taken care of including the tent, airbeds, campfire (buy logs/kindling on site) and undercover kitchen with pans, crockery, cutlery, glasses and washing up utensils.
We were very fortunate with the weather (28+ each day) but you'd still have a great time without it. For anyone who's scared of creepy crawlies I only saw 2 little beetles although there were, of course, a number of cobwebs which I did my best to ignore! Lots of flies but lighting the campfire soon gets rid of them. We also had a little robin visit us and of course there's Lucy the dog and a lovely little black cat who came to say hi one night. You'll also find chickens, goats and horses on site.
The facilities are good with 2 toilets and 2 showers (with hot water) which were all clean and hygienic. The camp was quite busy but we never struggled or queued to use the toilets or showers. The pitches are very well secluded so you're not overlooked which is perfect and adds to the feeling of being outdoors with nature on your own. Quiet time is from 11pm so no noisy music or drunken/loud talkers (that's usually me!).
Whilst there we visited Crackington Haven (40 mins), Widemouth Bay (30 mins) and Plymouth harbour (1 hour) in the car which are all worthwhile if you fancy getting out and about.
Highly, highly recommended and we will be back without a doubt.
