“Perfect beach, baby seals playing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2014

A relatively short and unstrenuous walk but absolutely fantastic. Need to time walk to a lowish tide. Arches and rockpools in which baby seals are playing on an idyllic beach. Walk back through green rounded sheep fields.

“Breathtaking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2014 via mobile

This is my favourite beach in the whole of New Zealand. We were told to visit it by a local when travelling in a camper and it was simply beautiful.

“Pleasant walk to gorgeous beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2014

Recommended! See the seals on the right hand side of the beach and the holes in the rocks from the left side of the beach (if you are looking at the sea from the land). Amazing at sunset.

“AMAZING BEACH!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2014

The walk over farmland is lovely and the view of the beach from the top is stunning! Ensure you go when it's low tide so you can walk the length of the beach, hopefully it's not too windy as it can whip the fine sand up and it hurts bare skin ;) this would be one of the most beautiful rugged beaches I've ever walked on, postcard perfect. Please go experience it

“Definitely worth going!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2014

Whakariri is one of the most stunning beaches I've ever been at. It's worth the long drive up there and the short walk down to the beach. It just seems so perfectly designed to look amazing. A plus is that I spotted my first seal in the "wild" there which was another awesome experience. There were not that many people up there so you are very likely to be able to enjoy the scenery properly. The track is party steep and sandy so not completely easy to walk and it takes about half an hour to get to the beach.
