“My favorite all time beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2013

I am a beach lover and this area has it all. It is off the beaten track, gorgeous, a lovely hiking trail, and a wide beach. To top it all off the sunsets are spectacular and the sea lions are adorable. Especially the babies who learn to swim in the pools.

“Stunning scenery and baby seals!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

Wharariki beach is a beautiful spot in the north of New Zealand's south island. An absolute must visit! The walk over the rolling hills, forest en dunes is wondeful. The beach itself, with the archway rock islands is amazing. Be sure to come at low tide. You will have the opportunity to see baby fur seals in the pools on the rocks, from as close as two meters. A lasting memory

“The most stunning walk to a gorgeous beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

The track starts at the end of the road so easy to find - about 20-25 mins on a gravel road. Starts on farmland up the hill and along the top and then descends down to a sandy tack and then sand amongst dunes before getting to the amazing end point. The walk takes about half an hour - harder to walk in the soft sand but no chance to get lost. I am quite unfit and did it so most people can. not suitable for pushchairs etc and a long way to carry a child without a backpack. Great to take a picnic and stay there for a few hours.

“awesome beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

People say that this is one of the top beaches to visit in New Zealand and I would certainly recommend anyone coming to Golden Bay to visit, You access the beach over the sand dunes, which takes about 20 minutes on a very easy walking track. The beach is on The West Coast so sometimes it can be sunny but dont be surprised if its blowing a bit when you get there, thats all part of the magic!!! During the summer there are loads of baby seals swimming in the pools directly to the right of the stunning rocks with holes in - some people get a little to near to the seals for my liking, so try and give them some space, they should be allowed direct access to the sea should they be scared! If you want a really cool experience you can ride down to this beach as part of the locally horse trek tours.

“TOP 3 in all of new zealand! :)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

honestly, it may be may favorite place in all of new zealand... it was by far the "oddest" (in a good way).
the walk through the sheep farm was an unexpected adventure (loved it)... then the dunes. the dunes(!). i've never seen a beach like this. please go to see it for yourself. also, we went about 2 hrs before sunset and it was cloudy, which made for a delightfully ominous feeling since it was already an odd experience/adventure.
the cherry on top of an unexpectedly cool/weird sundae was a peahen (AKA: female peacock) that appeared in the car park upon our return. she was just happily eating weeds. no idea where she came from.
SO FABULOUSLY weird/odd/unusual! GO! :)
