“very helpful!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2014

Taking the water taxi allowed me to get to totoranui and walk back, they transport even big tramping bags, so it was awesome to be able to do it. While going there the guy told you about birds we've seen on our journey and a bit about local history which was cool. The taxi wasn't completely on time because we had to take up passenger not only from the main office but from somewhere else so we arrived at totaranui later than I expected but that was not a big problem. Staff is friendly, cheerful and helpful so thumbs up!

“Highlight of our Holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2012

If your time is short, or willingness to tramp and stay in huts weak, I can thoroughly recommend the Rata Trail full day trip with Abel Tasman National Park Aqua Taxis. We stayed 4 nights in Marahau and wanted to walk the track but 15 year old daughter wasn't keen (outright refused). The compromise was this trip which took us by water taxi to Totaranui (with stop off to see seals on the way). Were dropped off here, and walked back to Awaroa Lodge. The 2 hour walk was stunning. Such variety: winding along beside the sea, across sparkling sandy beaches, through lowland forest, past swampy wetlands, and finally crossing an estuary inlet that can only be done two hours either side of low tide. Stunning! Can't believe its taken me so long to explore this part of my own back yard. Only sour note was Awaroa Lodge and Cafe where we intended to have lunch but discovered it has rebranded itself as an exclusive and expensive fine dining establishment (see my separate review). However we managed to get a pizza at the outdoor pizza bar, before being picked up by the aqua taxi for our trip back to Marahau. More stops along the way to see rock formations and little blue penguins. Awww! Even the teenager was smiling at that one.
NB. This trip isn't cheap ($81 pp) but compared against the cost of kitting ourselves to tramp and stay in the huts, and the grief we would have got from our teen, it was well worth it.
