“BRILLIANT PLACE TO STAY”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

Stayed here twice now and we love it. This time we stayed the pub had just been taken over by Ady and Nicola but the service, company and accomadation was still second to none, This has got to be the best full english breakfast you will get anywhere. Thank You both we will be back soon.

The village of Montacute is a very pretty one, but do not be deceived by this place. The people running it are very rude and ignorant. I was hungry. but after the service I received when getting an initial drink, I changed my mind very quickly. If you want somewhere friendly in this area, either go to the Masons Arms at Odcombe or the Prince of Wales at Ham Hill. But definitely do not stop here!

Food was ok. The portions were very big so if you eat a lot its the place to go. It is pretty average quality. No complaints, its what I would expect from a village pub. Not stayed here so cant comment on the rooms.

I'd never been to Montacute before and instantly fell in love with the place. The Phelips Arms is in the centre of the village, feet away from the TV Radio and Toy Museum, and Montacute House is not much further. Great walks near by. Found the staff friendly and helpful and the cooked breakfast was a generous serving.

Have visited this pub twice now and I certainly can say that the food is great. Probably the best steak ale pie in Somerset, very good value as well. I havent stayed here so I cant comment on it but if you are visiting the area, this is the best place for lunch.

Sunday lunch was very limited for a non-meat eater and the fish cakes were certainly not made on the premises. Although the staff were friendly enough the whole place lacked energy and style. Pity, because it's in a beautiful village with Montacute House right next door.

What terrible customer service from a very rude person on the other end of the telephone. I had a group of people visiting the area and had heard some good comments about the food.... but customer service should start from the first contact, be it by telephone or face to face. As a customer I expect a level of courtesy when I decide to commit my time and money. Obviously this business is doing so well that it can treat potential customers with disdain. I will not be making any enquiries to this establishment or recommending it to family or friends.
