We stayed mid week and the hotel was pretty quiet, you could tell it was mainly used for business trips as there were a number of lone diners in the restaurant. Overall this is an excellent hotel with great service. A fantastic sauna, spa pool and gym equipment in the new wing. DVD's; board games; computer and pool table available. Food was excellent. All very stylish with a really nice friendly atmosphere.

We just wanted to say a big thank you to the owners and staff at Lanes Hotel who made our stay so relaxing and enjoyable. We wanted to get away, just the two of us, but not too far from our little kids in Bristol, just in case. We had the most amazing attic room, with so much space to lounge around and a roll top bath to die for. Every day we used the spa, had breakfast in our room, ate different dishes in the restaurant and mouched around the hotel, grounds and village. It's perfectly placed to do a whole lot more if you have the energy, but we didn't and we were really quite happy to be left in peace to SLEEP! And apart from feeding us well and pampering us, you did leave us alone. Just the right amount of attention and such a beautiful building and location. Thank you again.

Stayed at The Lanes on a '24', it is a old Rectory which has been converted in to a modern stylish hotel. We stayed in the main house although there are additional rooms in a new wing built within the last few years. We were given a large room first, however this did over look the car park and as there are lovely gardens at the rear we asked to move if possible which we did. Room was only slightly smaller but nice, clean and with a better view. We used the Sauna and Jacuzzi in the new wing which was fantastic, my wife last minuet would have liked to use the spa facility for a facial however no appointments available, our fault should have booked. Gym looked fantastic there with new and quality equipment, do remember to take swim suite and gym kit. Water in the spa was provided in bottles at no cost and 'mini' bar was free in the rooms which had Curly Wirleys (Choc bar)!
Now dinner, the restaurant is part of the renovation and is a glass extension to the main building again very stylish, the service was fantastic and the food outstanding which was also demonstrated by the number of non-residents turning up to dine. The bar area started to fill up but the building could certainly cope. To entertain the diners and drinkers there was a pianist playing some really great blues, show tunes and jazz numbers, what a great touch. It was right to move rooms as we were sure that there would have been noise from the car park with late diners leaving.
We changed into jeans and went to the pub after dinner to see a band play!
And back for sleep, room was slightly noisy with toilets and showers going late and early AM but not an issue
Breakfast was the 'Full English' which again in the glass extension, service and food outstanding. setting us up for a day of touring.

The Lanes Hotel - it has to be said is a beautiful hotel - one of the best hotels I have stayed in. An old rectory sympathetically renovated - the old and new together. It's a concoction of old sandstone, glass and marble. The room we stayed in was very nice and much larger than average.

However..... the main thing that tainted my stay was attitude of the owner. The owner, you see, appeared completely monosyllabic. She only seemed to answer yes or no in a clipped tone.I tried to deduce a reason for this - Was she stupid ? This couldn't be - her hotel was run like a tight ship - you had to have nouse for that. My next deduction was that quite possibly my partner & I weren't quite good enough for any pleasantries like 'hello' and even possibly a smile. Was this possibly only reserved for the people who arrived in their Audi TT's with their botoxed wives dripping in diamonds.

The other thing that bothered me was that they didn't do cocktails at the bar - nor any bar snacks. If you wanted to eat - you had to eat their lunch or dinner in the restaurant - which at £40 odd pound ahead is a bit much if you just fancy a snack. I presume this is to keep the ne'er-do-wells and undesirables from frequenting her hotel.

So a lovely hotel - a lovely stay - but if you don't smell of money don't expect the lady owner to give you the time of day.

Very contemporary and smart hotel, nice village location and polite service. Only the cleanliness of the room was average, everything else above average!

Wow - I do as a business traveller, get fed up with poor hotels. This is like a breath of fresh air! Fab!! Can hardly fault it and I am very picky!
The only 2 tiny things and I mean tiny are....one of the breakfast waitresses always seems rushed and little curt - thats it. The worst thing I can say!! Stay there!
Love it!

We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite at the Lanes and would definitely recommend the choice of room (even if you're not on Honeymoon!). It is very spacious with a great en-suite comprising a roll top bath and massive shower. The hotel itself is traditional outside, contemporary inside - in particular the restaurant. In addition, the food is very nice if a little on the small side of portion sizes. Our only complaint, and it's a small one, is that the service was a little erratic. Just minor niggles like missing information in the bedroom, slightly unprepared for breakfast and a room service tray left outside the room all night. But for these, we'd have definitely given the Lanes a five star rating.
