“Fantastic Rooms & Great Food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights at the Wooden House on Isabela island in the Galapagos. It was a fantastic experience, beautiful rooms with spectacular wood (of course!) with exceptionally comfortable beds. The daily service was exceptional as well and we never had an issue or complaint. Additionally, we ate 3 dinners there at the hotel and the food was outstanding! It was fresh and well prepared with the local flavor.

We would highly recommend this hotel for anyone going to the Galapagos. We will return!

Room Tip: Choose a room with windows facing 2 directions to take advantage of the breezes!

Firstly puerto villamill is an amazing place with beaches, wildlife, snorkelling & diving hotspots and much more. The wooden house is a great base and is literally 1 minute walk from the port where and the amazing concha de perla. The staff are friendly and smiling and pedro the owner is extremely helpful. I had to leave at 5.30 in the morning and get my way onto the speedboat to Santa crux to make my flight. Pedro knew this and also knew that my Spanish was rubbish so he brought me to the pier organised the boat and explained everything. You cannot put a price on that.

It was very much low season I. The hotel and there was only a few guests staying but the food was very good and the services and tours were well organised and well run. Jessica was a tour guide who took me out for the day cycling around the wall of tears and many other sites. She also organised the loan of a bike and some snorkelling gear for me. Again this personal touch was what made my time in Isabella. I would have no hesitation in recommending the wooden house or Isabella. My only fear is that when I get back it will look more like puerto ayora in Santa Cruz.

This hotel was a brilliant find. It has really nice cosy rooms and is in a great location, really close to the beach. The food was really nice and so was atmosphere. In addition to this the staff couldnt do more to help and they were really friendly. I would recommend staying here.

I spend 3 nights at this place while traveling with ROW Adventures.

The lodge is only a five minute walk from the beach, which was great for when we got the itch to play some beach football (soccer). The family that owns the lodge is tremendously affable and looked out for our every need. The rooms offer flexibility with a/c if you want it, and plenty of windows if you don't.

The dinners are really good, and they have a dedicated bartender who comes up with his own cocktail concoctions--and they are always strong and tasty.

I didn't utilize their dive services, but I know that many advanced dive groups frequent this lodge. They have a fully outdoor shower for washing gear, and plenty of space for drying wetsuits and the like.

I'd recommend this place to everyone and anyone.

The hotel is very nice at a most affordable price for the perfect cozy rooms and lovely service and atmosphere it offers. It has a nice very green garden where you can seat in silence feeling home and confortable and bath in the swimming pool not big but clean and perfectly lovely. The rooms are big, furnished with good taste, and have air condition that some times is usefull though the temperature is usually ok.
But absolutely super nice of the living in this hotel is also something else : the owners and the staff are wonderfull ! For instance if you take the "with dinner option" (wich I reccomend as this is in our long experience the best restaurant in Isabela !), you might start with an aperitif served in the garden or veranda by the charming barman Anjen - clever with capirignas! - surrounded by soft low volume of chillOut fine music; and then you will have the smart chef preparing delicious food served in the veranda close to the swimming pool. And your perfect waiter - well more a nice devoted dad, with his warm smile and good eyes - anyway allways perfect and very kind in service, he is each evening wearing a pristine shirt with a delicious black bow tie ! a very rare thing if not absent in the whole Galapagos.
Last but absolutely not least, is the fact you can rely on the genious of Andres - husband of the owner - for everything concerning tours for hiking or snorkelling diving, horses, boats, booking reservations, and also simply warm advice on what is best in Ecuador, Galapagos and Isabela : he has the best tour operator agency on Isabela and has been for years an eminent guide around Ecuador.
What more you can ask? The Wooden House Lodge is a perfect place in south america.

We booked with The Wooded House from the States and had to wire the money – were a bit concerned about it, but once we got there, we did not have a problem.
The triple was downstairs next to the kitchen and the quadruple was upstairs. I believe the downstairs room was very noisy. Our quadruple was quite lovely with a nice living room on the outside and a nice balcony with two hammocks – quite lovely. We did have to keep requesting for toilet paper, which became a problem at one point. We had to wait between flushing the toilet before being able to use it again.
The breakfast was delicious and the staff was friendly. Those ladies were really nice!!!!
We wanted to book a few tours, but we wanted to use credit cards instead of cash and we were told that they did not accept credit cards. We went into town and booked the tours there. When we came back, we told the manager what we had done and he then told us that if wanted to book a dive, he would accept credit cards. I am not sure why he would accept a credit card for some things and not for others.
He had also told us that he would have breakfast on the day we left (he had breakfast for the group who had left the day before), and that it would only be coffee, bread and jam. We woke up early, but he never got up early. He just left us waiting there – a lasting memory of the Wooden House. It is a shame because it was a pretty place and because of a couple of things, we will probably choose a different place to stay and not recommend it. We stayed at La Casa de Judy in Santa Cruz, paid less, and received a better service. I cannot say that it was because we were not a group because there were seven of us and I had read the reviews before booking with then before.

Room Tip: I would suggest you request a room on the second floor and away from the kitchen and dining room - o...

We had Nr. 2 which is right next to the common and eating area. Since the hotel in general is very loud, that is not a good place as you hear all the conversations and music going on outside. The walls and ceilings are so thin, we literally heard the people upstairs spitting out the toothpaste when they brushed their teeth....
Our room was pretty clean, had a new a/c and a big bath. My main gripe is really the lack of privacy due to hearing everything from everywhere in the hotel. The staff was nice and friendly, the food was good. The pool wasn't opened during the three nights we stayed there. We were two singles in a group sharing a room and they were unable to give us a second key to the room, which however happened all over the Galapagos and Ecuador but for a few exceptions. They charged us $3 for a cup of coffee which I thought was very expensive. And it is a 10 minute walk to town.
All in all: it's not a bad deal but you can probably find something equally or more satsifying in Isabela.

Room Tip: more in the back and/or upstairs, although some people from our group in those rooms heard the noise...
