“Little slice of heaven.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

Unfortunately, my boyfriend and I were only able to stay at Sabai Sabai for one evening, before heading over to the other side of the island the next day as James was pretty booked up and we were of course as always booking last minute :)

From only staying there for one night, we still saw just how beautiful the place was and how fab it would have been to stay longer! Each room is decorated individually and named after a country (ours was India!), gorgeous rooms, very comfortable, brilliant little jungle bathrooms that you walk down stairs almost into a basement (never seen that in a bungalow before!).

We loved our stay there so much, that we often travelled back to the pier on the odd afternoon for a drink there and went back there for one of James's parties which was brilliant too!

He has it just right there and I hope it still stays just as untouched as it was during our stay.

All the best :)

If you want somewhere laid back, this is it. With wooden bungalows a few yards from a white sand beach, a communal lounge for relaxation and a convivial thatched bar where travellers, locals and ex-pats mingle, it is a beautiful place to stay – the only affordable beach resort situated right by Koh Phayam's main village with its shops, bars and restaurants. The huts are decorated with interesting artefacts from around the world lending a somewhat arty feel to the place and the owners and staff are welcoming, very friendly and good fun.
The hut we stayed in had a bathroom open to the sky and window openings with shutters but without screens, rendering the whole experience something more akin to camping (although a mosquito net was provided). Electricity is supplied by a generator for a few hours each evening.
Being near the jungle, we inevitably shared the hut with various creatures from time to time, including the exotic tokay with its unique call. Hornbills abound in the surrounding trees and there's a lovely walk along a sandy track behind the bungalows, leading through tropical vegetation.
The best thing was waking up and going for a morning swim off a deserted beach or collecting shells and bits of coral which had washed up on the white sand. Or you could simply relax in your hammock on the platform in front of the hut, listening to the jungle noises and watching the day begin.
At Sabai Sabai the pace is slow. If you want things santised and slick, then it's not for you, but if you want to chill out among like-minded friends in a beautiful place, then Sabai Sabai is your answer.

Room Tip: If you're not keen on sharing your hut with wildlife, the huts nearest the bar and away from the...

Sabai Sabai is something more than just accommodation. As a place to lay your head it is comfortable and unique as the beachfront bungalows are made inviting through decor from many different countries in keeping with the bungalow's themed name.

But what I think makes Sabai Sabai really great is the sense of community that James, Jay and Jam all encourage. With meals under the lanterns and stars or with a cocktail in hand at their circular driftwood bar, Sabai Sabai attracts a lot of lovely and interesting people including visitors who return year after year; those who choose to stay for several months; as well as locals and ex pats who choose to hang out in their comfortable bar and listen to a variety of music.

So whether you chance upon one of Sabai's popular beach parties or just find peaceful solitude in 'Africa's' hammock, it will definitely make your experience on Koh Phayam a memorable one and you will no doubt return again and again like I do!

Not to mention that Koh Phayam is one of the most beautiful places in Thailand, Sabai Sabai is definetly the best place to stay when you get there.

Very nice and lovingly designed bungalows for reasonable prices at a really beautiful beach. But not only the bungalows are adorable, also the surrounding is really nice. The owners are absolutely helpful and friendly and make this place really special.

We have been there in low season and could watch them preparing sabai sabai for the high season. Unfortunately we didn´t see the completion of the beach bar but i guess it will be amazing. And anyway one of so many reasons to come back.

I can highly recommend this place to everyone who´s going to Koh Phayam. But make sure you book in advance as already in low season most of the bungalows were occupied.

All the best to James, Jay and Jam

We´ll be back for sure

My partener and I travelled pretty extensively around the islands of Thailand and when we arrived at Sabi Sabi, Koh Phayam we knew we had found our little slice of paradise.
Everything about Sabi Sabi is perfect, from the chilled out vibe, the many little areas to kick back and read a book, the beautiful beach and the amazing owners who will pull a stool up to the bar and have a drink with you.
The rooms are great, they are your basic Thai style bungalows but are done out beautifully inside, there is nothing better than waking up at Sabi Sabi and hearing the waves lapping onto the shore.
The island itself is an amazing place to go and get lost and spend time just chilling out, but there is also a pretty awesome vibe at night with loads of amazing little bars to discover, you can definitely party if you want to.
I would whole heartedly recommened Sabi Sabi, there is no way you can spend time there and not fall in love with it.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front are amazing but to be honest there isn't a bad room here...

I stayed here for two weeks in a front row bungalow, and loved every moment. The food is great, the location just meters from the sea was heavenly, and sabai sabai itself has a great chilled atmosphere that allows you to just relax and enjoy. I had an accident whilst i was there, and everyone was so helpfull and kind to me, that i still managed to have a great last few days, even if my physical health was not top notch.
Have recomended it to lots of my friends, and will definately be back some day.

Sabai Sabai is the best! I have stayed here twice now and looking forward to going back again soon! Its location is fab - the beach is beautiful, accommodation is really special and the owners are just lovely. Its really chilled out, you can lie in the hammock and sleep or just watch the world go by! I could live here.... it feels like home :-)

Room Tip: They are all excellent
