“Very handy for Liverpool Airport.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2012

My husband, 13 year old daughter and I stayed overnight at this Premier Inn en route to Liverpool Airport. Usually we stay at the one at the airport itself but by the time I got round to booking it, the Saver rate had already gone. I booked the Tavistock one instead (£29) when I realised it was so close to the airport; in the morning it only took 10-15 minutes to drive to the secure parking at the airport. The staff were extremely friendly and courteous and made us feel very welcome. The food in the restaurant was fine and good value.

My husband & I stayed at this Premier Inn for one night on 13th June prior to a ferry crossing to the Isle of Man on the following day. We had stayed here several years ago for four days and were entirely satisfied so decided to revisit.

This time we were lucky enough to be allocated room 123, the largest Premier Inn room that we have ever stayed in. We wondered what we had done to deserve such a treat! This room was twice the size of the usual rooms at Premier Inns and had no less than three armchairs to choose from.

We spent an extremely comfortable night here and woke refreshed and ready for the ferry crossing to Douglas on the following morning.

The adjacent Brewer's Fayre provided a good evening meal and we enjoyed breakfast there, too.

The staff at both places were welcoming, helpful and efficient. We'll certainly stay at this Premier Inn again in the future.

we arrived at 12.45 in the morning and the male member of staff was very efficient and courtious and explained everything and off we went to our room. The room was very clean and tidy but very warm.In the morning i went for breakfast and asked if i could take it to the room as my husband was not well and the staff couldnt have been more helpful or attentive. The cooked breakfast was loely and there was plenty to choose from.We would definately stay here again if in the area as it is very close to the motorway.Just down the road is a tesco petrol station and store which was useful for refuelling berore returning home,

We stayed as a family for one night after visiting Knowsley Safari Park which is close by, The room was of the usual high standard we always seem to receive from a Premier Inn.
The staff on reception were very helpful and obliging, there the high standards end!
We went into the restaurant which is part of the hotel, a "Brewers Fare", it was like walking into a another world.
We had to find someone to seat us, when someone finally did this we sat at a table half laid and with food debris scattered all over the floor where we were sat. We looked around and most of the tables had dirty plates on them, and food, straws, cutlery and general rubbish over the tables and floor areas., It wasn't looking to good, we nearly got up and left but the kids were hungry as it was getting late for their dinner (7.20).
We went to order at the bar and was told there was a 30 minute wait for food, we expected this as it was a bank holiday Tuesday (Jubilee day), this we also put the general state of the place down to.
Starters arrived pretty quick, although our side orders came out before our main meals which they took back whilst the main meals were cooked.
They then messed up on desserts, but "hey" not a problem, it had probably been a very busy day for the staff. The food generally was quite good.
Next morning another nightmare, the restaurant had hardly been cleaned ready for breakfast service. There was still food, straws, plastic tops, cutlery and other items around most of the tables, some had been cleared up, but not allot we couldn't believe it, as we were only the second group down for breakfast, two other people before us.
It really put us off breakfast, we just ate up quickly and left. (The service was excellent at breakfast though)
We mentioned our thoughts at reception, and the lady apologised and said that it was operated separately to the accommodation side, which she asked if all was okay, which it was. She asked us to leave details for the manager to ring us in reference to the restaurant, but they never did, how bad is that? What a shame that Premier Inn has perfected the art of good, quality, well priced budget accommodation but then gets let down by poorly operated quality standards in their restaurants.

Room Tip: Rooms at back, even numbers have grassed areas to window, but do suffer from some road noise.

Let me start by saying all of the staff I dealt with were very friendly and professional. I had two issues: 1) Got woken up by a load of idiots banging on the door at 0100hrs. Got to give the manager his due he happily agreed to give me a refund through their peaceful night guarantee. 2) The breakfast was buffet style, which I'm not a fan of, and the bacon was like rubber (which will happen when it is left out under hot lights) also they had a coffee machine which produced a poor cup of coffee. I stay in Premier Inns quite a bit and like the way they normally cook breakfast to order - for some reason they don't at Tarbock and this is a shame.

Had a chicken and bacon salad for dinner which was good.

If you can chosse between Derby Lodge and Tarbock go with the Lodge just because they cook breakfast to order. Again I stress the staff at Tarbock were excellent but poor process lets Premier Inn down.

By the way there isn't a lift, so if you have poor mobility make sure you request a ground floor room.

Room Tip: Sleep quality was disturbed by idiot guests. No pool, no fitness centre. Oh and no lift.
