“Getting Better With Age”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

We have stayed at many different hotels in St Martin and by far this is our favorite. Our previous stay wasn't without concerns so we weren't quite sure what to expect. During our stay two years prior, there were service and maintenance issues that left us less than satisfied. We are happy to report that those issues have been more than addressed. Service was phenomenal. During our five day stay the friendly staff went beyond expectation and provided us with seamless comfort. It is obvious that Hotel management has successfully transformed the staff. Staff repeatedly stepped outside their area of responsibility to offer their assistance and ensure our comfort. Without exception, very exceptional service!

I note that the hall carpets have been replaced, ceilings have been painted and there were no maintenance issues whatsoever. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious, clean and in good order.

We had several great meals at their restaurant AURA with the chef Manuel greeting us after the meal.

Very satisfied!

Room Tip: Wonderful Third Floor ocean front.

This resort was beautiful but very difficult to find and we got lost trying to find it.

Once we got there we were given a first floor room. Do not stay on the first floor ocean front. The room was musty and damp and the bed linens were damp, so we requested new linens because we thought perhaps they hadn't dried thoroughly. Within no time the new linens were also damp and cold. We moved to a 3rd floor ocean front and it was wonderful - not damp, beautiful view and wonderful bed.

The casino was fun but empty, and in general the resort was pretty deserted - perhaps 30-40% occupancy. But this is definitely the nicest resort on the island we have ever stayed at (been to St Maarten/Martin 4 times).

Dawn Beach is very pretty but was very rough, windy and rocky. You need water shoes to walk in the ocean and the current was very strong. Sitting at the beach bar was chilly because the wind was so strong.

Room Tip: Don't stay on the first floor. Too damp.

MODSXM, General Manager at The Westin Dawn Beach Resort & Spa, St. Maarten, responded to this review, July 17, 2013
Dear Vacationqueen31,

Thank you for taking the time to review the Westin Dawn Beach Resort and Spa. I am glad that you enjoyed both the island of St. Maarten and the Westin. I apologize for the issues you encountered with your first room. This should not have happened. I am happy that we were able to move to a different room that offered great views of the ocean.

Because we are located on the Atlantic side of the island the ocean can be a little rougher that then Caribbean side of the island. This also provides us with great tradewinds that help to keep it cooler in the day time.

I hope that we will be able to welcome you back to the Westin Dawn Beach Resort and Spa and St. Maarten in the near future.

Sincerely,
Daniel Beddor

I just finished a 3 night stay at this property and will definitely be coming back for a holiday. Located on a wide, sandy beach the hotels offers all of the amenities you would expect from a Westin. I found the staff particularly friendly, always with a hello and a pleasant smile. The property is very clean and I benefited from an upgrade to a spacious corner room (I am not an SPG Platinum). As others have no doubt mentioned, the hotel is somewhat secluded but taxis are plentiful and always available. On my return, I will rent a car for my stay which will solve that issue. Highly recommended.

My husband and I stayed at the Westin for 10 days and 11 nights. We were celebrating my husbands birthday. I would go back there in a heartbeat. I will go back in a heartbeat. The hotel was clean the rooms were perfect. From the moment we checked in until the moment we left were treated special. The staff goes out of their way to please. The service was outstanding. The Manager David was friendly and eager to please. The concierge Joseph and Fran were very informative and made all our reservations. All the bar tenders in the lobby were friendly, especially William. He was great. Julio Meyers was very kind and the staff at the Ocean restaurant quickly became our friends. Nickolaus, Simon, Simone, and all the staff there was great. I didn't find one thing that I could say wasn't pleasant. Thank you to the Westin Staff! Gail and Jeff with great appreciation for making our vacation wonderful. One more thing our Taxi Driver Matthew made us feel safe and was always on time. :)

Room Tip: I enjoyed the rooms looking over the Ocean and the pools.

We stayed here for a week and enjoyed it very much: The service was very friendly and efficient, the premises very nice, and the rooms spacious and well-maintained. I would recommend to rent a car and visit other restaurants, since the food is better and cheaper at other places. It is not that the food is bad at the Westin, but you can get a better price/quality at other restaurants. Special recommendations: The breakfast buffet is great and so is the spa.

Room Tip: Go for the "sea view", it is definitely worth it!

My wife and I just completed a 9-night stay at this property and we can't speak more highly of our visit. We have been fortunate enough to travel extensively throughout the Carribean and the Westin Dawn Beach ranks at the top of the places that we've stayed.

Comments: (1) The service is impeccable. Everyone, ranging from the servers at the restaurants to the front desk staff, is incredibly friendly and helpful. (2) The breakfast buffet was first-rate, as was the food when we ordered room service. (3) The pool area was large and not crowded (though I recognize that June and July are slow periods for the Carribean), with great drink and food service at the chairs. (4) Dawn Beach is approximately 1500 feet in length with plenty of room for chairs, blankets, etc. There aren't a lot of water sports in this area and the current is a little rough at times, but the beach area is beautiful. (5) The rooms are fairly typical for a Westin with a mini-bar and huge bathroom and balcony. Our room did not have a refrigerator, which was a mild annoyance. (6) The workout facility was excellent with 3 cross-trainers, 5 treadmills, bikes, and weights. If you prefer outdoor running/walking, the property is located in a very, very hilly area of the island with narrow roads and no sidewalks, but such a run/walk is beautiful and scenic...if really hot. (7) We did not get a car and took cabs on our excursions, and cabs were always available immediately when wanted. (8) The casino in the lobby was never particularly crowded and featured the standard casino table games and machines. (9) The value for the stay was remarkable. Recognizing that room rates are a lot lower in June and July than during the American winter, the property was nonetheless a great value. Drinks were not absurdly marked up at the pool, room service prices were reasonable, and the daily resort fee of $20 is one of the lower amounts I've seen for these irritating charges at a property of this quality.

If you're looking for a high energy vacation with a lot of activities, this property may not be ideal given that it is located several miles from the more active areas of St. Maarten. If, however, you want a relaxing trip on a beautiful property with tremendous service, it would be hard to do better than the Westin Dawn Beach.

My wife and I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights with our three boys. The beach is great with soft white sand; the pool is very clean and is refreshing. There are showers by the beach to wash off the salt from the seawater. Staff is very friendly and the rooms are what you would expect from a Westin. Dawn beach is a great beach as well.
