“The best Sunday Brunch on the Island!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

I'd like to highly recommend the Sunday Brunch at the Westin. I have been to many brunches on the island and this one by far exceeds all others. The fresh choice of fruits, salads, sushi, shrimp, crab etc. is fantastic. They also have a made to order breakfast bar, pasta area and a large flowing chocolate fountain to serve with icecream and many other additional toppings. The champagne is included
and is non-stop flowing also. So be sure to try it and make time have a leisurely lunch with friends.
The pool view is also wonderful and it adjoins the beach. Hard to beat views. Yes, the hotel is a bit isolated so be prepared to drive if you want to see the rest of the island. Otherwise, sit back, enjoy the food and views. :)

Room Tip: Try to get a room with an ocean view. Large balconies with a view of the Atlantic and St. Barts are...

The hotel was lovely. The lobby was welcoming, the rooms were clean, the pool was clean and the ocean and beach were manicured and clean. The restaurants were expensive and service was lacking. There was no need to strive for customer retention. The general feeling was "when you leave there will be someone else coming in". This hotel was very remote on the island, so you certainly needed transportation or take a taxi where ever you choose to go. While you could spend your entire vacation at the resort you would miss out of the charming island culture and ambiance. If we return to St. Maarten we would chose a location more central to the island simply because we enjoy walking around from place to place.

Room Tip: First floor have patios facing the ocean

We traveled the week after Easter to St. Maarten and loved the island and this resort. We stayed in the timeshare, so I can't comment on room quality. The timeshare unit was beautiful, spacious and updated furniture. We had access to all hotel services, and the staff was friendly and extremely accommodating. A couple of calls for service were answered within minutes. I was approached daily by staff to ask how our stay was going and what could be improved on -I've never experienced that type of service. We ate at the Ocean restaurant twice and found it to be very good and relatively reasonable. Poolside service was excellent and also reasonable.

Two complaints I've read often in reviews here are that the timeshare salespeople are very aggressive and that the ocean is too rough. I didn't find either to be true - I had one timeshare inquiry and it was politely handled. The ocean is choppy and the currents are strong, but I had no trouble swimming every day with my children, but you have to use caution. We visited other beaches with calmer water. We ate at a few of the restaurants in the Oyster Pond area - Capt. Oliver's on the French side, Big Fish and Daniels and liked all of them. I was surprised that they all had children's options. There are a couple of small grocery stores nearby and a bigger one in Phillipsburg that we used to stock up our kitchen. I expected prices to be high but found them relatively reasonable.

A drawback is that it is not as easy as it should be to walk from the Westin to Oyster Pond. I walked along the beach several times, but you have to climb over rocks which makes it impossible to do at night or if you have groceries. I also ran every day, there is a 5 mile route that the Westin has mapped, but the hills are very steep. I would also recommend bringing a few pool toys if you have kids.

We really loved St. Maarten and have traveled to many other Caribbean and Mexican destinations. St. Maarten really stands out and the Westin was exceptionally well-managed.

Our stay at westin st maarten left us with such a sweet taste in our mouths that it was difficult to decide where to stay when we were planning our trip to Barbados...Having stayed at the hyatt regency in Trinidad we didnt expect such a tiny island to have accomodation that left us wanting more!

We rented a Timeshare from an owner, and stayed on the Timeshare side of this resort. We have rented other timeshares (Domestic, not in the Caribbean), and the units here are fantastic. They are quite large, as I mentioned in the headline of this review, and beautifully furnished, definitiely a notch above a typical Marriott timeshare. The rest of the Westin is really nice. As most have mentioned it looks grim as you initially approach the hotel, and the casino in the lobby was an odd choice as there were rarely anyone in the there, wasted space really. The water is on the choppy side, but we are from New York City and grew up at the Jersey shore so it was nothining we couldn't handle. You would not want to let children younger than teens in the water unattended. The pool is great, the hotel employees are extremely polite and friendly. We have not been approached by the time share sales staff that much, and when they have approached us, we politely state that we are staying in a Timeshare unit, and are not interested in a presentation. The location is remote, but the Dawn Beach/Oyster Bay area is an upscale enclave, with plenty of dining choices within a five minute drive of the hotel. So far we have eaten at Captain Olivers, Big Fish, and last night we stayed at the hotel for the Pirate Buffet which was great for our kids. They had Caribbean style dancers, a man who performed dramatic things like walking on glass, swallowing fire etc. The quality of the food was great. Renting a car is an absolute must for touring the island. I took my 12 year old son and his pal to Loterie Farm, and eco park that has Zip Lines and nature hikes. We did the Zip lines (Be warned, it is a suspended obstacle course which was fun but intense. It is a definite workout but worth it). We have also taken the ferry to Pinel Island which was a short five minute ferry ride. Pinel was beautiful. Today we head out on the Lord Sheffield clipper style boat for a snorkeling execursion, and tomorrow our last full day we plan on driving and seeing more beaches around the island. I would highly recommend this hotel, and if you can, rent one of the timeshare units especially if you are a large family/group. Redweek.com is a great site for finding timeshares to rent, There is an annual charge of $15 for access to the site but it is worth it, if tired of staying in standard rooms.

This was our first time at this Westin it did not disappoint . The room was ocean front with three bedrooms an a laundry room plus two bathrooms. The deck was narrow but the furniture was nice an the view was to die for. The beach was rocky in parts but most of it was nice . They have cabanas to rent but the palm trees were also used for shade. They had a lot of chairs to go around also. Then they had a great pool area an nice big hot tub . The food was also good we liked the Ocean Restraunt the best . We used the spa an the messages am facials were great they also had a very nice steam room an dry room.

I recently went back to St. Marrten (3rd time) and stayed at the Westin for the second time. My stay was great, service was wonderful, good food/drinks, and friendly staff. This location perfect because it is centrally located and close to many attractions. You must visit Grande Case, Calmos Cafe, Pinel Island, and if your are in the mood for pizza go to Mama Pizza. Obviously visit as many beaches as you can. Don't stay on Dawn Beach every day because there is so much more to see.
Here are a couple things to keep in mind.. Its a Westin so the food/drinks are not cheap.. but who cares you are on vacation. You probably will not get upgraded with a Ocean View; people pay extra for those rooms and they usually don't have any available for upgrade. Trust me I had a long convo with the manager.. he was super nice but real with me about what they had available. If you want to enjoy the view just go and sit at the outside pool bar, the sunset is amazing!

Also rent a car because the cabs are super $$$$$.
