“A good stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2014

2 days stay with the king bed room, pretty big room and good view for the sea. Clean room, wifi works most of the time.

Some cats around the hotel, a little bit noisy in the morning as cats start to wake up..

Captain Oliver’s is a magnificent change from either the big, impersonal resorts in St Martin or the funky local establishments. For a return trip to St. Martin, we went way out of our way to enjoy this hotel.

The rooms are elegant with spectacular views. We especially appreciated Trifon's (the manager) desire to make sure everything was perfect for us—which it was.

An unexpected, but huge bonus for us was the snorkeling right out of our sliding glass doors. In three weeks of traveling in the Caribean it was the most spectacular snorkeling we found.

Don’t miss the hotel’s swimming pool. With the glass viewing window, it is like swimming in an aquarium. Great for parents to watch their kids underwater.

For us, this place was perfect (and we can be pretty picky/discerning travelers.

Room Tip: We loved the ocean facing rooms

Staff was amazing. Grounds were beautiful. View was spectacular. Captain Olivers was a larger facility that I originally expected. They really made for a perfect trip. If you actually want to get a feel for being on an island in the Caribbean I think this is a great way to go. The prices were great too but I dont feel like I was missing anything. I would come back without hesitation and even request my same room! If you want marble floors and need a cab just to get from the entrance to the parking lot why go to an exotic island anyway...try vegas. I could walk to many restaurants and a market or two. And again the staff was wonderful. Thanks!

The property is amazing and the staff was better. We had a great time at Captain Oliver's. This stay came at the end of our island hopping honeymoon to five islands. We had a day and a half here and it was great. Thanks.

This was my first time to St.Martin...I stayed at Captain Oliver's Resort Hotel based on a friends recommendation. The room was clean and very roomy. My bed was more on the firm side- which suited me ok, too Also, had a great view of the bay and the AC work perfect. We at breakfast at two small cafe/ Restraunts near by ( walking distance 1-2 blocks). Great time... Great rate, and saved money for the real fun things;)
PS: bring some bug mosquito repellent for outside ....

Room Tip: Wifi was best in the lobby ; sporadic in the room...best room is always with the best views! And all...

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2014

July 31, 2014

This was the third time we have stayed at Captain Oliver's Resort Hotel. Our first visit was in 2002; second visit was in 2012.

Trifon, the hotel manager, met us at the desk when we checked in. We were able to get our favorite room with an outstanding ocean view. Our room was very spacious and the desk staff and cleaning staff were very friendly and accomodating.

Internet access in our room was problematic but it's no great problem for people who want to relax. There is ample and free wifi access in the open air hotel lobby.

Oyster Pond is a very nice location and we hope to return to Captain Oliver's next year!

Room Tip: Recommend selecting a room beginnig with 104; all have great ocean views!

Morning breakfast is contracted to nearby restaurant, be prepared if cook is not available there is no alternative cook on premises. We arrived n had to wait for an hour for a cook.

Rooms are poor especially bathrooms, shower door are dangerous and may fall off tracks n hurt someone. They would not even fix it and it's July slow season, so you can imagine busy season Good luck. Bathtub is dangerous no skid protection in tub area, be careful exiting or entering. Water pressure typical island resort works according to current tenant usage, very very weak.

Very careful on nearby bars n restaurants during happy hour when they charge you full price for not asking full disclosure of beer selection or drinks. Careful with the price scams n check your tabs n bill.

Wifi service terrible slow as molasses and no courtesy pc available on property.

As a frequent flyer and transportation industry employee I would not recommend this to anyone.

CaptainOliver2014, General Manager at Captain Oliver's Resort Hotel, responded to this review, August 3, 2014
Dear Guest,
Despite the fact that your opinion sounds somewhat extreme, we are sorry your stay with us did not meet your expectations.
Because of the low season we needed to make breakfast arrangements with one of our partner restaurants and we apologize for any inconvenience caused by this arrangement.
Please note the bars on the marina do not belong to the hotel and are not ran by us.
As every hotel or even private home, our property has to improve some maintenance points and we are using the low season period to work on all of them.
It will be our pleasure to host you again and do our best to be up to your satisfaction. Should you decide to return at Captain Oliver’s, please do not hesitate to contact me directly in order to make your reservation.

Best regards
Trifon Boumbovski
