I like the café Sofia brand - great food, great vibe, great service and generally good locations. At least that had been my experience with branches such as Rondebosch and Sea Point. so I decided to try the new Cavendish branch. Big mistake. Actually I tried it on two occasions, believing my first experience must have been a fluke. Not so.
On both occasions they didn't have most of the items on the menu. And on both occasions the waiter didn't have the curtesy to tell us immediately. We had been waiting for our food for about 20 or 25 minutes before he came out and said they didn't have this, this and that. I ordered a mango juice, he brought me orange juice instead because they didn't have mango. Never thought to ask me if I wanted something else.
Second time we had been waiting for our food for about 15 minutes before the same thing happened. On the first occasion we just paid for our drinks and left. Second time around we ordered something different (our 4th choice, as they didn't have our 2nd and 3rd choices). Then we waited. And waited. And waited. Just when we were about ready to leave, the food arrived. it was good, I'll admit, but I was too angry to enjoy it.
Being the suckers for punishment we are, we decided to order dessert. Same story. Of the ten or so items on the dessert menu, only one was available. While our waiter was explaining this to us, we noticed the couple at the next table in an angry confrontation with their waiter over how long they'd been waiting for dessert. We eventually came to our senses and left.
