“Unique, authentic, incredible!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2012

My wife and I wanted to vacation somewhere tropical but avoid tourists and commercial resorts. This place was perfect. From the moment we stepped out of the airport, Juan Carlos and Linda (owners) treated us like family. Hacienda Puerta Del Cielo is beautiful, both inside and out. The food was fresh (often grown on the property) and delicious, the staff were gracious and always available to help, and the tours were spectacular. We honestly don't have anything negative to say about our trip or stay here. We never had concerns about safety, we learned so much about the history and people of Nicaragua, and the diverse microclimates around the resort are amazing. We stayed five nights and highly recommend all of the tours; each gives you a unique view of the area. We spent the last day lounging around the pool, sleeping in hammocks, and sipping drinks - it doesn't get any better. Many thanks to Juan Carlos, Linda, and all the staff for a relaxing and wonderful vacation.

Stayed here for two nights after Granada and before San Juan del Sur. It's a great property - totally isolated and quiet retreat in the trees overlooking Lake Masaya and the volcano. The property is only 4 individual casitas and 2 guest rooms, so it's very intimate. Each casita is very well done with a private deck, nice bathroom, etc. The beds are very hard though.

The shared facilities are great - nice pool, plenty of different areas to relax. The owners were very helpful and friendly in discussing the area and in setting up and executing various activities.

The staff, like most staff in Nicaragua, is still kind of learning about how to serve tourists, but they were friendly and helpful and trying hard.

Overall a wonderful experience and I would definitely return.

This was our first trip to Central America, and Nicaragua exceeded all of our expectations. We stayed 6 nights at Hacienda Puerta del Cielo, and from the moment we arrived Juan Carlos and Linda made us feel right at home and went above and beyond to make sure we loved every minute of our vacation. Each day we were in awe of the beautiful scenery, wonderful food, and fabulous drinks- and that was just at the Hacienda.

We felt like we really expereienced the Nicaraguan culture, had great history lessons- courtesy of Juan Carlos, and loved the tours that were offered. We did all 3 tours: Granada and the Isletas, Mombacho Cloud Forest/ Canopy Tour, and Volcan Masaya. Each one was special, and we'd highly recommend doing them all, as each one is unique and a once in a lifetime opportunity. Once we got home to the States, it was hard for us to pick a "highlight," as we reminissed our adventures of a boat trip through the Isletas, a horse drawn carriage ride though Granada, Zip lining though the canopy, peering into the smoking Masaya crater, and of course hanging out poolside and by the bar!

We can't recommed the Hacienda Puerta del Cielo highly enough, and thank you to our wonderful hosts and the staff, who made this our favorite vacation ever! We will be returning soon with friends and family.

Originally conceived as a vacation home for the owner's extended family, Hacienda Puerta del Cielo has maintained its intimate and inviting feel.

Between the close personal service, the excellent food and attention to beverage preferences before arriving I'd be hard pressed to remember a a more personal and caring experience.

The location offers excellent day trips for shopping, eco adventures and touring. When you're done with a canopy tour and volcano hike winding down at the pool can't be beat.

The altitude and proximity to the lake results in cooler temperatures than the beaches or cities. We also appreciate the quiet afforded by the adults only policy.

We plan to come back with friends in the future.

We drove from Costa Rica and thoroughly enjoyed our trip (minus the border crossing). We arrived at the Hacienda via a 400 year old hand carved road for the last quarter mile - just wide enough for one car - really neat. The place is beautiful - the setting, the grounds, the rooms, dining area, bar, pool - it all is just sooo relaxing! Luis is a gracious and knowledgeable host with a well trained and eager staff. Our meals were world class with all fresh local ingredients. The fruit is amazing!! We stayed two nights in January and will definitely go back for a longer visit.

Stayed at Hacienda Puerta del Cielo for three nights in mid-December in one of the two guest rooms (smaller than the Casitas, but great value).

I was travelling solo around Nicaragua and organized pick up from the airport in Managua to the Hacienda when I booked. So glad I did as I'm not sure many taxis from the airport would have been able to find it, not too mention it provided an opportunity to chat with Luis and determine what activities I would do during my stay.

The property is beautiful, peaceful and food and service excellent. It really set the bar high for the rest of my time in Nicaragua!

My husband and I stayed here 5 nights over the New Year’s holiday and I booked a Sunday day trip for four of my visitors in late January. Both experiences exceeded expectations.

Mountain breezes and gorgeous vistas are the first things to enjoy. Then there’s the extraordinary craftsmanship you’ll begin to notice in every detail of this place.
The family who created this out of a side of a mountain had not only a vision, but the patience and tenacity to make it happen. It’s all ready for travelers like us to par take.

A small number of guests make it a real opportunity to meet people from every part of the world. Later in Granada, I met up with a couple from Canada we met here. So now I have new friends for the future – a real treasure of traveling.

Best of all, we were welcomed warmly by Luis, Linda and Juan Carlos– owners extraordinaire. They are fun, personable and work hard to make their guest experience high quality.

We loved the privacy of our casita with our own little porch and hammock. Meal times are leisurely and much anticipated! We found the food healthy, fresh with lovely presentations. I booked this sight unseen and it has become one of the highlights of my 10 weeks in Granada. Would I return? You bet I would.

I strongly suggest you consider this a base for your Nicaragua experience. It’s well situated for all the sights you’ll want to see with the added dimensions of serenity and nature you’ll not find elsewhere.
