By almost any measure, this place would normally rate a 2, only because it's old and worn down. Fundamentally, it's clean but the rooms and furnishings are from the 60s and 70s.
What makes this is the truly outstanding food, exceptional wine list and warm hospitality of Steve and the current staff. I stayed here on both the front and back end of a successful Aconcagua summit attempt and while one could argue that almost anything would be considered outstanding after three weeks on the mountain, this place is truly an exceptional find. My wife was helievaced out of base camp and recuperating in Mendoza and the front desk staff went out of their way to make the necessary arrangements so that I could check on and speak with her by phone.
In all candor, the rooms are equivalent to those found in most quality hostels. Clean but worn out. If you are a light sleeper, I would ask for one not facing the highway in order to minimize truck noise. I was so tired that it really didn't matter. The food was outstanding, better then many restaurants we ate at in Mendoza and coupled with the wine list and location, I give this a 4. Again, if you go in expecting just the basics from the room, I believe you will find this a truly exceptional experience. If they can find the money to update and remodel the rooms, this would be a 5.
